i have tried a number of meds for my RLS over the years but keep going back to pramipexole. It doesn't always work.I end up taking co codomol and amitriptoline Last week I started having a small glass of tonic water and I have cut out the amitriptoline and co codomol I will carry on drinking it as long as it helps. Everyone is different though so won't help a lot of people.
Hopeful: i have tried a number of meds... - Restless Legs Syn...
Hopeful
I hope it continues to help. Amitryptiline causes worsening of rls for the vast majority of sufferers so you might want to observe whether there is any link Between taking it and rls onset in you.
Be careful with your dose of pramipexole. If you keep it low and keep your serum ferritin levels high it will help you for longer before augmentation kicks in.
The tonic water won't help a load unless you're drinking a swimming pool. Quite often there is a minimal amount of quinine,if any. Real quinine is dangerous and should not be taken for rls. Maybe for cramps under doctors supervision.
Otherwise,as the others have advised.
The tonic water is very nice with gin and a slice of lemon, but alcohol is not great for us. Sad.
Tonic water no longer contains much quinine, if any, and quinine is for cramps, not RLS.
A small dose of a dopamine agonist along with an opioid may be a good way for you to go, I think several smart people on this site have learned to 'mix and match'.
At present, I have a small dose of a DA, with methadone to assist when I am plastered to the ceiling in the middle of the night.
But do yourself a favour and have regular 'holidays' from the DA if you can. It is full of traps for unwary RLS-ers.
