I went to my GP yesterday to get my blood results. My Ferritan/Iron level is 30 ug/L. (20-290) is the guideline. I said that I thought 100 was what a person should be for RLS but my Dr just put her head down and seemed exasperated with me. She did not prescribe fe.

Iron level.
You can purchase iron yourself. You dont need a prescription.I would suggest iron bisclynate.Doctors dont know much about rls.And yes it should be at least 100.
For rls. 30 is perfectly ok if you have no symptoms of iron feficiency.
I'm pretty sure there is an article somewhere that you can print off for your Dr.
But if you self medicate how do you avoid overdosing on iron. Aren't we reliant on our GP to authorise pathology tests to make sure we don't exceed 200 or 500 depending on where in the world you happen to be? I had a cavalier attitude to popping iron tablets until someone in the forum mentioned the damage you can do to your vital bits if you get too enthusiastic. In Australia most path tests are free to the patient. Which is just as well because I couldn't afford to pay for very many if I had to cover the actual cost.

Exasperated! How very medical.
Go to rls.org and look for the paper on iron and RLS.
Print it out and take it to her. Slap it down on her desk with a almighty thud,
Can you change GPs? There is no use trying to educate your GP as she plainly doesn't care about you. Your just a few dollars (or pounds or euros) that walks in the door and complains about some trivial disease that keeps you awake.
If you're not allowed to change GPs what are your options?
Can you just say you want another GP to give a second opinion?
Graham
That’s disgraceful. I think Graham is right. You should change GP. Raising iron can be a very effective means of alleviating rls symptoms. Mine responded well to my serum ferritin levels raising. You know more about your condition than your doctor and yet she tries to make you feel bad.
