Hi , ok so I did actually get the appointment last week to see the dr, i mentioned could my ferritin levels be low? I explained the whole RLS factor ,how ill i have been feeling and still am feeling, and the Dr said well ok we will do a test ,so I said I want the actual number my ferritin is at . I had the bloods done Friday last ,results were rang to me Monday ,the receptionist just said yes a very low score and you're anaemic,so there is a prescription for 3x a day iron tabs. . So I went to see my Dr today , and omg....low is actually an understatement. ..my ferritin level is 6! The Dr was quite astonished too , so, now I am to take the pills but also have begun juicing veg/fruit to help absorb the iron . He said to rest (which I didn't need telling as my body is not coping at all atm ,dizxyness ,sickness ,fatigue etc. the sickly feeling is the worst bit right now.

So , i wasn't expecting it to be that low ,but now at least I know what to do about it,by he did warn me it would take a while ! .

I am not taking any rls meds either at the moment , i went cold turkey about a month ago, went through augmentation, still having rls episodes at night , but after the augmentation this is a breeze in comparison. I have also come off all the other meds for other illnesses too, I'm just taking co codamol in the evening ,not every evening though ,and cannabis butter on the evening's I don't use the co codamol . It's working for me at the moment ,i just need my iron up I guess,

Ever so tired ,good luck at the drs Friday ,let me know how you get on .

Many iron supplements are constipating - Ferrous Bisglycinate does not constipate and supposedly crosses the blood/brain barrier more readily.

Greetings, and best wishes to you in your efforts. In case it's of help, my very naturally-minded MD told me that taking Vitamin C (say, one gram) with iron dramatically helps its absorption, and that it's best to take it separate from other supplements, as apparently other supplements can "compete" with the iron for absorption. If I recall, he suggested at least a 30-minute space between taking the iron-plus-vitamin-C and other supplements.

Good luck!

Thanks for that , strangely enough this is how I do take the iron as told to me by my doctor , it's good to know you have my back ! 😊

It is a very low figure. I hope you manage to get it up soon. We will all be hoping that raising your iron level will have a positive impact on your rls.

I can't believe with your Ferritin level as low as it is and the way you feel, they are not giving you iron infusions. It is so much faster in getting your levels where they should be. What type of doctor are you going to? I go to a hematologist and they don't mess around with things like this. On the other side, when you do get your ferritin level up to where it is normal, don't be surprised if the RLS is the same. My ferritin level has been high and I still get the RL that drives me up a wall.

Hi sorry for late reply, I don't know why there isn't any offer of infusion ? Perhaps that's the question to ask next visit ? But atm I'm feeling incredibly sick and so resting a lot , RLS isn't so bad just at present , but I have come off all meds apart from 10 mg amitriptyline a night ,i did come off it totally but then my anxiety went through the roof , work in progress I guess

I would ask about the infusion. What kind of doctor are you seeing? If your ferritin is that low you need to get it up faster than what pills will do. I was going to one hematologist for several years and even he gave me infusions, but he was not doing the blood work and the follow ups he should have so I finally changed to another hematologist and what a difference. You really need to see if your doctor knows what is best for this condition. You need to ask questions to be sure.
