Cannibis and the Relaxis Pad = relief

I am almost sorry to tell my story because I know many of you are not in the US but Cannibis is now legal in my state. I actually started to smoke it a few months ago and it is a God send for putting me directly to sleep if I am having a bad night. A bad night for me is full body RLS: Itching, tingling in my arms and legs, general restlessness and discomfort in my entire body. I use a pipe, take a few puffs, get back in bed and fall asleep in 5 mins. I stay asleep for 7-8 hours. There is NO hang over the next day! I also bought the Relaxis Pad. It is especially helpful for me in the afternoon and evening when sitting, reading or watching TV. I sometimes use it in bed and it is comforting but if having a bad night, only Cannibis gets me to sleep. Also the Cannibis I smoke does contain the substance that makes you high. I am in my 70s, never used recreational drugs in my life. I still take generic Mirapex, and about 5-10 mg of Ambien every night. Wish those of you who can get it, would try it. But, I don’t know the strain I use since what I have now was grown at a friend’s daughter’s home. Good luck to all on this quest for normalcy, whatever that is. I’ve forgotten. Have had RLS since I was 40.

Hi Cheltena glad you are getting relief.

Some day people will look back at the incarceration of people using cannabis with the same horror as young single mothers being sent to convents.

In the US cannabis illegality has fuelled the prison industrial complex while helping to create the opiate crisis that is going on.

The sooner it is legal across the world the better for humanity.

I have never used any kind of illegal drug. And I do NOT advocate the use of drugs, legal or illegal. Illegal drugs were not a part of the culture in which I grew up. I have had to get advice from my children and grandchildren on how to use Cannibis. This might create a humorous picture in your mind. Children in their early 50s. Grandchildren in their early 20s. Me in my mid 70s. They used pot recreationally in college, none use it now. Grandma is the only family member using Cannibis at the moment. Funny the curves life throws.

The drug you say you use has been illegal in your state and technically remains illegal at Federal level:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canna...

so you are actually using an illegal drug if only technically. Also you have advocated use when you said:

Wish those of you who can get it, would try it. But, I don’t know the strain I use since what I have now was grown at a friend’s daughter’s home.

The legality of the drug is imho inconsequential - in the UK alcohol and tobacco are illegal despite millions dying from them:

drugfree.org/learn/drug-and...

Cannabis has killed no one yet remains illegal, (despite much research and anecdotal evidence attesting to its efficacy), is morally if people need to use it I believe they should - particularly when not getting it can cause so much distress and suffering from illness and/or getting 'legal' replacements such as Oxycontin, Mirapexin, etc which are much more harmful to the individual, (legality aside).

I have been using in very mild doses for years. But I would not smoke it. Bad for your lungs. You can get it in ingestible form.

Yes, we have a dispensary opening here for the first time. I will seek out new methods to ingest. Thanks.

What are ingestible forms - like cookies??

I am very happy to hear about your experience with cannabis. I would like to add that, according to my research, ingestible forms of cannabis are more effective for sleep. Although it sounds like smoking is working perfectly for you, for most people edibles will be better. Edible forms of marijuana are metabolized differently by the body. The effects are longer-lasting and more suited to the sedative effects that are helpful for RLS.

I have one burning question - how do you like the recreational effects of marijuana?

I am also close to 70, but I started smoking when I was a teenager. And, I must say, that I thoroughly enjoy all of the effects of cannabis, not just the medicinal ones.

I am 61 and just started using marijuana about 4 years ago. I too use it to sleep. A couple of hits and I’m asleep. I originally stated using it for arthritis pain. It works. Nothing wrong with it as it has no side affects and no withdrawal symptoms.

It is a bit of a pain, but it is possible to make cannabis into cannabutter and then use it as an edible. It can be made into cookies or just mixed into a spread or whatever. As an edible it takes about an hour to kick in (much longer than when smoked). The effects last a lot longer also - mayber 4 hours or so. I think it can cause dopiness the following day but does help a lot with sleep. For me, it does not help hugely with symptoms. I wonder if it is the combination of the cannabis and the generic mirapex that cheltena takes that ensures a beneficial impact on actual rls symptoms.

I agree with Cheltena that it is amusing to note the journey that RLS takes you on. I did not expect to be embarking on an odyssey of drug taking (legal and not legal) in my 50s in an effort to obtain relief from my symptoms. I have not taken recreational drugs - the odd alcoholic drink excepted - since student days 30 years ago.

No. Don’t ever eat it. Do drops in a water or juice

Fascinating; why not eat it? Is it possible to make drops from buds?

jimmcar profile image

Why not? When you say "drops" are you referring to a tincture? Or are you saying don't eat the actual marijuana bud?

I find edibles to be the best way to treat RLS. Although tinctures are also effective - although much more expensive per dose.

I live in California and there is a very large assortment of edibles to be found. Some of them are specifically designed to deliver CBDs (which have no THC - THC is what provides the high effect.) Some of them are specifically designed to induce the "couch lock effect."

If you live in California, you can have a very good time exploring the whole range of effects, medicinal and otherwise, that are available through cannabis.

Hi Cheltenham,

This reply to you is about the Relaxis pad. I am in UK where they are not sold. I did manage to contact someone in the company which manufactured them only to be told that they had halted production at least until late 2021 because they could not get the medical insurance people involved. Do you happen to know if there are any available and for sale (ie export) as it sounds like just what I need.

Not willing to risk the law here with cannabis!!!
