Back on Oxy !!!

After spending months coming off oxycodine I finally managed a completely clear 3 weeks mess free. Then back it came..... My RLS has come back and spent the last 3 weeks getting approx 4 hrs sleep a night. Last weekend I finally gave in and took 5 mg of Oxy before bedtime and had the best nights sleep I have had for months. I really don't want to go back on Oxy again what else can I do ??? Just want to rip my legs off at night ..

Sorry meant Meds free

Why dont you want to be back on oxy ? What other meds have you tried before the oxy ? Having RLS, means you will always need to take something for it.

I would be interested to know why you came off the oxy ( was it the extended release version? Oxycontin)

I'm in a situation where oxycontin is not working for the 12 hrs claimed - only for about 8 . I'm going through hell at 5.am waiting till 8.00 before taking next dose.

I can't see a doctor or consultant for a few weeks to make a decision on where to go from here.

To answer the OP - I see the following choices-

1 -spread the dose by 3 , ie I'm on 10 x twice a day- so now go to 10 , 10 and 5 or 10 again.

2- add gabapentin to the current scrip- say 100 to 300 in evening.

3- add Paracetamol to the current scrip- how much and when? I have been trying this without much success.

4- Change completely to Tramadol or Tapentadol- do they last their claimed life? Will the same issues arise- or would this constitute "Rotation"?

5- Change to Fentanyl patch ( Duragesic) - I have experience with this from post op situation. Ok with it , but still an opiate.

6- Do what the OP has done- get off all meds , but run the almost certain risk of a lengthy Post Withdrawal RLS experience - as the OP is experiencing now.

I now understand I'm probably suffering Tolerance with the Oxy- my metabolism seems to cycle medications quite quickly - so will this be a problem across the board?

Apologies to the Opening Poster for possibly hijacking your post- but I think we have much the same issues and I am laying out various options for people to comment on.

Cheers.

I have heard of a few people who say the oxy extended doesnt last for the 12hrs, They add in a faster working med to go along side it. I cant see why you are bothering with paracetamol, hardly strong enough to do anything but help a headache. :P Getting off all meds....... rather you than me. eeek. People can take Tramadol for years with no problems it can cause augmentation but rarely. If you become tolerant quickly to meds then maybe rotation is what you may have to do. Sorry i dont really know that to suggest for you. Hope you get some better replies than mine.

Elisse - Paracetamol is a potentiater for opiates- thats why its used in Tylenol and Percocet etc. I was hoping to extend the life of the oxy.

Yes it is or is supposed to help, i must have had a senior moment when i replied to you. I take Tramacet which is a lower dose of Tramadol and it has Tramadol/Paracetamol, i dont think is really helps tho. I am also just about to try a different regime of my meds i have here, i am forever rotating them, not because they dont work, but because the side effects become too much.

I hate taking meds and in the past would have regularly stopped, hating myself when I inevitably had to return to them.

I now accept that I will, for the foreseeable future be dependant on some drug or another. If you are stopping like I did for no good reason other than you don't want to be taking anything ask yourself would you be of the same mind if you were diabetic?

@ Madlegs1 I complained to my GP about the Oxy not lasting and got Tramadol to add, not that that always works either. Some nights no matter how much I pump in myself I get no relief. Tried the paracetamol to extend the Oxy but no joy there either.

Thanks Raffs-yes , thats what I'm finding- though it does seem to help sometimes. Had a really bad night/ day yesterday and was really low and disappointed - I thought I was set for life with the oxy , - and now this 😢.

I'm ringing for an appointment with the Pain consultant to review med options , as my new young GP won't even discuss these with me. ( that's the one who offered Benylin and Amitryptoline for rls control !)

This whole rls business is such an up and down experience- it's very difficult to keep it together sometimes.

BTW- what was the final take on Kratom- source and variety? My last info seems to have been 'chemical brothers' who will send a variety pack- is that still best advice?

Cheers.

Are you sure you don't meant CBD oil and CBDBrothers?

Kratom wise a sample pack isn't a bad idea, although of the 6 or 7 strains I've had I've not noticed any difference in them so I stick to Red Borneo I think it is - the one for best pain relief.

Thanks Raffs- I must still be in Electric Picnic mode !😵 - which would be better for coming off the oxy? Kratom or CBD oil- or is there even a comparism? I know a lot of people use Kratom for withdrawal relief . CBd oil seems to be more for ongoing relief???

Thanks for the quick reply.

in reply toMadlegs1

I found CBD oil of limited benefit and what I did get could easily be explained as placebo imho.

If I were you I'd go with Kratom for withdrawal. Many people have successfully used Kratom to beat opiate addiction. One of many sites:

Good luck with the withdrawal - slow and steady wins the race.

Thanks Raffs- I was coming to that conclusion after some research.

I'll follow up on that.

Thanks again.

Hi Madlegs, don't know about kratom. But I do use pure CBDoil. Helps me sleep better, deeper I feel. I find its effect is mainly calming. Good foor rls-ers with a racing brain. For me, It doesn't do much if anything at all to the rls.

Hi Mugsie57 - how are things going for you now?

I hope you've got some ideas from the conversation.

Do come back with any comments or ideas on where you might go from here.

Good luck.

Hi Madlegs. 4th night back on Oxy but sleep deprivation back again. RLS is not as bad but sleep the problem again. You think you find something to sort things then bam !! All goes down the drain again. Really don't want to go back on meds again but looks like I will have to . Waiting to see Gp.
