Hello everybody. I am new to this forum but not new to RLS. I started getting it when in my teenage years and I am now a lady in my fifties. Through lack of treatment available to me and bad judgement on both Drs. and myself I had come to believe that I had to just get on with it. Recently, however, I went to see a different doctor (when I was about ready to ask him to have me put down) and was surprised when he said I didn't have to just live with it and that there were treatments available! He has put me on Gabapentin which worked amazingly at first but now I am taking larger and larger doses. I suppose being diabetic doesn't help but I am wondering what to do next.
I will have a good read through this forum but any help and advice would be gratefully received.
Many thanks for reading this.

I also am on gabapentin and it has helped sporadically for 4 months. I still have stretches where it doesn't help and I wonder whether I should switch to something else like Targinact. It's a bummer trying to find something that is effective at least 5 nights a week.
I think I'll try the opiates in the New Year in the hope they work. Maybe you could ask your GP to try you on Targinact and see whether that helps.
I have recently joined and found a treasure trove of information, as you will as well, cant give any advice to you but you will find some i am sure, in the meantime welcome
Hi Twitch, and welcome to the forum! I've had RLS since birth, and I'm also now in my 50s. Didn't realise it was RLS until a few years ago, when I found this forum. Due to back problems I'm on Tramadol, which has pretty much eradicated my RLS symptoms. So I've never been put on a medication for RLS itself, although quite a few people have been prescribed Tramadol for it. It sounds as though you're experiencing "augmentation" with Gabapentin - that dreaded word that you hear often on here! Sounds like you need to go back to your doctor perhaps, and try something else. As I said, I've found Tramadol works for me.
Hope you find the help and advice you need on here.
Thank you everybody for your kind replies. After having a good read here I have made an appointment to see my doc. I think I want to have a good discussion about my options with him. I would never have known there were so many if I hadn't stumbled across this forum and I am so impressed by the kindness and support shown here.
i have rls u take 3mg of requip it helps some at night but when it's time for my period my rls is unbearable!! Nothing relieves the pain or discomfort! i want to rip my legs off ! anyone have any suggestions?
I had my Docs appointment and he is open to trying other meds but he wants me to lower my dose of Gabapentin first. Is that normal? He wants me to drop one 300mg dose first and then he will see me again at the beginning of January when he is thinking about starting me on Pregabalin.
