I get terrible burning on my feet but mine isn't related to my rls, I have pain in my feet also and my doctor thinks I'm suffering with rheumatoid arthritis, rls can affect ppl differently, some say it feels like crawling, others say pins and needles so urs cud well be how it affects u, mine feels like an electrical current surges thru my body and the urge to move is overwhelming, its a horrible disease x

I have that surge like a currant running through me also x thanks for the response x

Hi.. I also have this.. After having blood tests it was diagnosed as Gout... Had to have a course of steroid tablets to clear it but its coming back again now.. I would suggest getting it checked out by your GP..

I have this at times with the RLS no other medical problems linked to it.

Many a night I sat with my feet in cold water or walking in the snow! Although thankfully that has subsided this past few years going from a near daily occurrence to once or twice a year.

Has Neuropathy been ruled out? With RLS you have to have the urge to move your legs do you have that? X

rb76 profile image

I mentioned neuropathy but he kind of dismissed me, I don't have massive urges to move but I do fidget x

Hi rb, when you fidget as you do not have massive urges to move (which is unusual in a RLS sufferer) is the feeling relieved because in the Single Question for Rapid Screening, it says "do you ever have unpleasant, restless feelings in your legs that can be relieved by walking or movement?“.

Pippins2 profile image

The absolute MUST HAVE for a RLS diagnosis is the urge to move . This urge to move is overpowering and cannot be ignored. Therefore I would strongly question your diagnosis and seek out a second opinion . The RLS sensations can be described using many different words from painful to creepy crawlies but urge to move is paramount. ......Pippins2 x

Hi rb

Sufferers do use the "burning" as one of the words when describing RLS symptoms. I expect you have seen this, taken from the rls-uk.org website:

A SINGLE-QUESTION FOR RAPID SCREENING

The European journal or neurology reported a new single question for the rapid screening of RLS in the neurological clinical practice -

"When you try to relax in the evening or sleep at night, do you ever have unpleasant, restless feelings in your legs that can be relieved by walking or movement?“. This question has 100% sensitivity and 96.8% specificity for the diagnosis of RLS.

It is recommended that patients with RLS are given the following tests by their medical practitioner, as a minimum:

•Serum ferritin: RLS is frequently associated with iron deficiency.

•Renal function: RLS may be associated with renal failure.

•Other investigations for underlying possible cause include fasting blood glucose, magnesium, TSH, vitamin B12 and folate.

•If the neurological examination suggests an associated peripheral neuropathy or radiculopathy, electromyography and nerve conduction studies should be undertaken.

RB, I note that you suffer with CFS. Is this Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or Cramp Fasciculation Syndrome?

Not only do my feet sting / tingle / burn etc but I get tiny red dots and peeling skin.

After a little research Im wondering if this could be related to Fibromyalgia now

I have MS as well as RLS & get burning, tingling, buzzing feeling in my feet & below my knees from the MS. The RLS is completely different & is an uncontrollable need to keep moving the legs to stop the awful sensation. It completely prevents me from sleeping, even when totally exhausted. The burning pain sounds more like neuropathy to me. Does the pain completely stop you from sleeping? If it's nerve related pain, amitryptiline will stop it.

I used to have the same problem. My feet would burn in the middle of the night, and I would soak them in cold water in the bath tub. I haven't had this problem in a long time and I had forgotten about it until I read your post. I realize now that it may have been related to RLS. I'm not sure why the burning went away, and I wish I had some answers for you.

I too have the leg and feet burning. When I first mentioned this to my Dr. it led me on a useless path of treatment for a diagnosis of spinal stenosis. I underwent useless treatments that did not help in the least! This included meds, ph. therapy, injections, then back surgery. Nothing helped. I take Temazapam for a sleep disorder unrelated to RLS, that did help me sleep a little better, but when I got the Relaxix Pad the combination lets me sleep all night. When at rest during the day, I get a lot of relief. The pad is expensive, but considering all the money spent over many years and possible in the future, well worth it. I understand the pad is not for all people,it requires a Dr. rx to get it. Quite honestly, the pain is worse than the creepy crawlies! Maybe I just got lucky that I am able to rest. Hope this is helpful. There are copy cat sites on the web, so be sure to get the true site. They will tell you how to get a trial period.

Does it feel like sunburn?

You did not tell us what medications you are taking. Yes I have tingling , burning, like a sunburn on my feet. Also have pulling, yanking and pain worse with time. Also anxiety would sweep over me sometimes I would sweat and scream as I walked and walked through the house praying for it to stop. Then I found this site and Madlegs first question to me was "what medications are you on". When I said Pramipexole the group was all over it. They told me I was augmenting on Pramipexole. I had never heard that term before so I googled it I've been trying to get off it since then - very slowly with the help of Gabapentin and hydrocodone. My doctor wanted just to increase the dose of Pramipexole so he. sure wasn't going to help me get off Pramipexole. I also paid attention to what the group said about diet and what triggers RLS Here's what I pulled out of group posts: No caffeine, no sugar, no white flower, no preservatives, no Alcohol, no avocados, no red meat, no dairy. Instead eat green vegetables, almond milk, oatmeal, eggs, bananas, apples, berries and nuts. Hope this helps to point you in the right direction and gives you some relief. By the way Getting off Pramipexole isn't an easy task. But you can do it.

Hi there. I think you might find an explanation on the Erythromelalgia site EM. Burning feet/legs is a symptom of this. Good luck.
