We are honoured that Professor Adrian Williams will be joining us as a guest speaker at our Annual General Meeting on Saturday, 3rd September.
Professor Williams obtained his medical degree from University College London and after obtaining his membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) was awarded a fellowship to Harvard Medical School where he was an instructor in General Medicine until his appointment as assistant Professor of Respiratory Medicine at The University of California (UCLA).
Dr Williams was rapidly promoted to Professor and head of Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center and Director of the Sleep Disorders Center at UCLA.
He was instrumental in forming the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and one of the first physicians to obtain Board Certification in Sleep Medicine in the USA. He is a Diplomat of The American Board of Sleep Medicine and a Fellow of The Royal College of Physicians.
In 1994 he returned to London where he established the world renowned Sleep Disorders Centre at St. Thomas' Hospital. Dr Williams has published extensively on Sleep Disorders including more than 60 peer reviewed original scientific papers and more than 30 other published papers including chapters and books.
He is considered a world expert in the field of sleep disorders. He continues as Director of St. Thomas' Hospital Sleep Disorders Centre where he leads a variety of research and clinical efforts.
