Miracle cure for me
Congratulations, can't say it helped me but if it works for you I'm delighted. Long may it last
Hi Karen
You are one of the few that does not find that amitriptyline makes RLS much worse. It did not affect my RLS either when I took a low dosage for one year for something else. We are by far in the minority judging by what others say on this forum.
Amitriptyline is also listed on the rls-uk.org website as being one of the medications to avoid if suffering with RLS.
Long may it last for you. It just goes to show that what works for one with RLS does not help many others. RLS is unfortunately very individual when trying to alleviate the symptoms.

You are definately in the minority for this med to work for you and to not make your RLA worse. Most people find it sends their RLS into overdrive. Glad it works for you. But i prefer to call it a treatment rather than a cure.
definitely "treatment" instead of "cure". RLS can go quiet sometimes, and it is heaven when it does that. But, for now, we have treatments, no cure yet.
It just goes to show how much RESEARCH is needed into RLS. For some like me Amitriptyline is an absolute Nightmare, but yet a few are helped by it. RLS has no rules it's the disease from hell!!
Just to put in my 2 cents worth...are you on any other meds for anything else, and also how long have you been taking this. It helps like.1% of all RLSer's, I is tops on the "no no" list for us. It is the single one med that seriously made me suicidal because it made my RLS sooooo bad. Antidepressants (tricyclics and SSRI's) are 2 of the classes of meds that 99.9% of us should and do avoid like the plague. Glad it works for you, for now, but really want to know what dose, how long this has been happening for you. BUT, do not want people here that are very open to suggestions, to think that this is the way to go. Be warned, there are always exceptions, but as we say RLS has no rules and it does what it wants to do on any given day. So, I am very glad for you, but you are treating RLS, not curing it, to be precise. We cannot have brand new people to this forum seeing the word "cure", You have found a treatment that works for you, and that is GREAT, but it is way out of the normal treatment, and is not the way to go for most of us. Glad you are doing well on it, but it can turn on you at any second. Most of us would not touch that med with a ten foot pole, so good luck with it! Let us know how your success is another week or two to see if it is a fluke if it is still working for you. Worst RLS of my life when I took this med for prevention of migraines, and it did not help those, and also seriously gave me RLS so bad, it is what spurred me on to find out what RLS is back in 1996.
