IN ENGLISH PLEASE?

The best I can tell, 5HTP, like melatonin and antidepressants, elevates the level of a chemical in the brain called serotonin. When the body is in balance (called homeostasis) serotonin complements dopamine and all is well. When we artificially raise serotonin with drugs it begins to "compete" with dopamine for limited enzymes necessary for its synthesis. For most of the world this probably won't be a problem until it really gets out of hand and then the thing they're taking the drugs for...depression...may actually get worse. That's what the article says. What it doesn't say, but what I am suggesting here, is that we who have a predisposition to RLS will suffer from the very first pill of either melatonin, 5htp or antidepressants. At least I will :(
