RLS and exercise.

Recently I have been swimming regularly and have found that my RLS is so much worse in the evening than on the days when I don't go swimming. so does the exercise make my RLS worse? Any information would be helpful, thanks.

When we inform about RLS we says that hard exercise and exercise in the evenings will make RLS worse, but I think it is very individual.

My own experience is that the more I moved my body during the day the more problems I got in the evenings and nights.

It is an odd coincidence that last night I had a really bad time with the RLS, as bad as it gets, and I had spent the afternoon pruning down some bushes. I was wondering if the effort had set off the RLS, then I check my mail and bodecia's question is there.

It does seem that when you have RLS the questions never stop.

I have to agree that exercise or even a small amount of extra activity can bring on RLS with a vengeance in the evening. I am on the Neupro patch which works great if you have a regular routine but if that is change by say going for a walk in the sun then I am guaranteed not to go to bed before 5am.

Just getting in cold water, pool or natural, sets my legs off in 10 minutes. You have to a wind down time before bed time, and that has to be a few hrs with nothing strenuous. Exercise also raises our core temperature, and of too close to bedtime can cause problems, because our core needs to cool down for sleep, RLS or not.

Thanks for all your replies. After doing a little bit of research and having feedback from people, it seems exercise does exacerbate RLS..

It is so annoying and upsetting as you try your best to keep up with things and keep yourself moving, as I have inflammatory arthritis as well. It is like a double edge sword. For RLS as you say the need for rest hours before bedtime is a must. I shall continue on my quest to find information about this. again thanks to all for the info xxx
