I have rls 24/7 and my requib isn;t helping like it used to. I am taking too much, but can't stand this. Sitting in a car, at the computer,
Hate to ask this, but have you tried like ten to twenty mills of vicodins or perks? Its the only thing that's helped me.
Hi Olgamari Nobody can understand what we are going through unless they've had first hand experience. Coffee might not be helping because of the caffine. Have you got any Co Codamol. They might give you a few hours relief. When you get home try a hot bath. Hot as you can stand. It might help a bit. Hope it eases off soon x
Arjay, thank you. I have never heard of CoCodamol, can you tell me what it is?
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Co Codamol are strongish pain killers. A mixture of Codine and Paracetamol. But I find any strong pain killer can help including Ibrobrufen. Another thing I find helps is distraction. By this I mean do something that requires close concentration. I shape pieces of wood with a sharp knife, no guard so If I don't concentrate, ouch Well anything is worth a try isn't it.
From everything I’ve read and in talking to doctors there is no explanation for why you have it. Probably a nerve thing but so far not curable. I’ve had RLS for 30 years and have tried a lot of cures but none has worked as well as what I’m doing now. Went to a pain clinic and he put me on taking magnesium and Tramadol (300 mg) and I’ve had 99% results, instead of walking half the night I go to bed a sleep the night away. It’s a great feeling. If I forget to take the Tramadol I pay for it so I know it works.
I have just been through the same as you. I got to the point of getting no relief from the requip so weaned myself down to half of 1 mg with the help of tramadol. After 2 weeks I started on Premipexole and took that for 6 weeks then again weaned myself off that and started on the requip again and hey ho the amount of relief that requip gave me was the same as the first time I took it. It will be about ten weeks of hell but so worth it. Good luck
Sounds like augmentation to me too. The latest advise from Dr. B. who is an expert on RLS in the USA, and who i trust for his advise, is not to wean off the dopamine agonists, but just to stop them, BUT you will need a strong pain med to get you through the withdrawal. Tramadol will help. Or if you have a good doctor morphine would help. Nothing you take or do will stop the augmentation. You need to get off it. If you decide to just change to another dopamine agonist med like Pramipexole, then you can just go from one to the other, without having any withdrawals. Also as Mojave has said, that you are not taking anything else which could be making your RLS worse.
Thanks Elisse. I live in a small community and I doubt very much if my family dr. would okay a pain med. The neurologists I have seen are from two to eight hours away. Maybe it is time I venture away and seek other drs. out. I have quite a few medical conditions which prohibit my driving and surgeries upcoming. Thank you so for the wonderful advice and caring. I never knew that you would have to withdraw from requib.
When you stop any dopamine agonist, what happens is the dopamine receptors have got used to the dopamine, when you take the dopamine away, those receptors will object, thus your RLS will be sent into overdrive.
Yes, I use prilosec/zantac and also cymbalta and just recently small doses of xanax. Do these all make rls worse? I know antidepressants do, but I need them. Thank you Mojave
Olgamarie, look at this website and at the treatment page, you will see a list of meds used for RLS, also a list of meds to avoid which includes MOST all the anti-depressants. rlshelp.org
Have you been tested for fibromyalgia? I have both, I've had the RLS since I was a child. I'd cry myself to see. Everyone one said that it was growing pains. Later at a pain management appointment I was told that a lot of patient's with fibro has the same experience. Hope this helps sweetheart!!! I do feel your pain.
Thanks Kim,it is so debilitating. My thoughts are with you.
Hi Olgamarie, in answer to your previous question, co-codamol is a combination of codeine phosphate and paracetamol. It is all I'm using (when needed) at the moment and I find it very helpful. The only downside for me is that it looses it's effectiveness if I take it for a long period. I buy it from my local supermarket. Hope you get through this soon!
No, I live in the U.S. Our town is located on Lake Michigan approximately 150 miles south of Canada.
It was with the help of my GP I weaned myself off Requip and for me it worked, I took Premipexole then for 6 weeks the went back onto requip and the augmentation had gone..I take 1 tremadol most nights and that also helps.
Isn't Klonopin the US name for clonazepam. It's an anticonvulsant and is supposed to have a mild sedative effect but it's actually the treatment I get for my RLS. I've tried other stuff but this is the only one that works. I take 200mg of clonazepam and 900 gabapentin and the 2 together seems to keep it at bay.
This is Olga marie. I am allergic to Tramadol and codeine and a list of quite a few medications.I currently use approximately 7 mg of Requib a day. I also use 60 mg of Cymbalta twice a day. Other than thyroid and Prilosec (antacid pill) that is what I take. I a m doing ok on the Requib, although the doctors at Mayo do not want me on it, as I get quite a few side effects, double vision being the worse. I will eventually go back to Mayo. It is a 7 - 8 hour drive. Thank you to all of you for your advice.
