My understanding is this happens during activities of daily living. Does this happen to many patients?

I have heard of this but it has never happened to me. I use ropinerole which is a similar drug. I've used it for many years.

Thanks for replying so quickly. I am so nervous about taking it, but so tired from having jerky legs.

I don't have PLMD, I have RLS and insomnia. Have you already tried the Mirapex. If you are nervous about any side effects you can always try with a smaller dose and cut/bite the tablet in half. See how that dosage would work for your symptoms and if it doesn't help and also if you don't have any intolerable side effects, you could then use the .25.

Thanks, again. I am going to start tomorrow.

I fell asleep suddenly daytime a couple of times when I was on 0,54 mg Sifrol (same as Mirapex) It was absolutely impossible to stay awake and qiute frightening. All dopaminagonists has this side effect, but I think it only occurs on high doses.

I use Mirapex for a long time but I never fall asleep during the daytime, it gives me relief, I hope it will for you to. I wish you all the best with it.

I agree with Jumpylegs, half the tablet, see how that goes first. Your doctor should have started you on the lowest dose first. Mirapex can make you very sleepy during the day. It can also cause some people to suddenly fall asleep, so that is something to be aware of. But, i would start it when you are not going anywhere or driving, if you drive. Then you can see what, if any, side effects you might get., Good luck.

Used to happen to me for a few days and every time the dose was increased. It would only happen if sitting comfortably warm and relaxed. I was (still am) taking Mirapex for Parkinson's disease so had to titrate up to a rather bigger dose.

I've been taking mirapex for years, .5 mg. it REALLY helped my rls and I've had no side effects

Yes, some people can take it for years and have no side effects, makes no difference on the dose sometimes. Just because a side effect is listed does not mean it will happen for sure. I know some, .like me , who cannot even tolerate the very lowest dose at .125 mgs, and that is LOW. My body cannot tolerate any of the dopamine meds at all. They are a great option for some, but many people are not helped by dopamine agonists one bit. That is why we always say meds and supplements and treatments are all trial and error. It is a very individual thing. Good luck! Let us know how you get on with it. Donna/USA

I have used .25 mirapex for a week and it is working great for stopping the leg twitches. Once the mirapex kicks in the twitches are gone for the night. The problem is that i am not sleeping any better for more than a couple of hours at a time. The doc said i could take a total of .5 mirapex during the night but i din't see any reason to do that if .25 works so well for the twitching. It doesn't make me particularly sleepy.

do any of you take a sleep med along with mirapex?

Lots of people tae sleep meds with Mirapex in my groups. Sometimes I use a "cocktail" of meds is what works better for us. I use a cocktail of meds which work 90% of the time, and that is about all we can hope for. Nothing works all of the time. and like others said your doctor should have started you on the .125 dose. Always should start with the lowest does possible on any med for anything.
