Hubbie is still unwell, he had to go to the doctor's this morning. His recent kidney infection has now cleared up, thank goodness, but he has been left with pain all over his body and numbness and extreme tiredness. Bless him, he is quite low and feels useless because he is unable to work. I am really worried about him. He gets pain and numbness when he stands for more than a few minutes and is experiencing pain all over. The doctor said is sounds like his nervous system is causing a problem and he has been prescribed Gabapentin. Would any of you be able to enlighten me on the drug and if it causes any problems. His doctor is organising a mri scan for his back and legs.
Thank you.

I've been on Gabapentin 300mg/night for about a year. It was prescribed in the hope that it would help reduce leg movement at night, so that I could get some sleep. It has been of limited benefit, and I do manage to get the odd night with 6 hours of sleep, but not frequently enough. So I am now also taking stimulants in the mornings to keep me awake during the day.
I was recently prescribed Gabapentin and started on a low dose then over a three week period went onto a higher dose of 600mg daily. After a short while I experienced swelling, at first it was feet and ankles, but by the time I had gone to the doctor, I think I was swelling all over. Everyone seems to react differently and it probably depends what other drugs your husband is also taking. I hope it works ok for him.
Thank you all for your replies. Much appreciated. It sounds like Trial & error I think with this one, but true we are all different and react differently to the same drug.
I ve been prescribed Gabapentin for a few years now for RLS. I am on 300mg twice a day. My GP said that it acts on the nerves thus helping my RLS to subside. From the information leaflet inside the box I read that it also effective for Parkinsons which I believe is also related to the nerves. I have no side effects with this medication and although in the event that I take more than the 1 tablet at night(I keep the morning one to take if the legs are really playing up although this is not recommended) I become relaxed and able to sleep,, so I dont know if taking 2 tabs together is making me sleep or if my relaxed legs then allow me to.
Hi. A lot of people will report positive experiences with Gabapentin. I am not one of them. After taking my first microdose, I woke up eight hours later, and my life was changed. It destroyed me. Five months later, I am still sorting out the problems that Gabapentin left behind. I would advise: proceed with extreme caution.
