Hey garryg, how are you feeling now? Your first 24 hours can be quite an emotional time. You can go from feeling excited (because you know you can do this), apprehensive (wondering whether now is the right time), quite strong (nothing is going to stop you), back to being excited again.... It really can be an emotional rollercoaster with it's ups and downs. It really does help if you welcome these emotions in though... see it as an exciting fairground ride even!

Try taking yourself back to why you have chosen to stop smoking in the first place. Just to remind yourself of your 'why'.

Are you using the 16 or 24 hour patches? When used in the correct way, NRT really does help. However, please remember that it is you that puts all the effort into it and so it really is you that must take the 'pat on the back'.

You've come this far, keep up the good work :-)

Hi Garry, I'm Pete, I stopped for 6 weeks using patches, it was hard to start with because they used to leave red marks and itch everywhere I stuck them, ha ha I even shaved the top of my chest so I had more places to stick them, but after the second week it got a lot easyer, my body must have got used to them. After 5 weeks I was only using the patches every other day, so you see it DOES get easyer,

Keep in there Garry your doing great, you've got over the hardest step, when you get a craving just try taking in a deep breath, feel your lungs fill with fresh air, a great feeling pal.

Take note of what the Girls have said to you, we are all here to help each other quit the dreaded weed and live again. Pete.

A up Garry hope your ok pal, I cant remember having any stomach pains, but ha ha I can remember erm, trumping a lot in the first few days.

I would do as Emjay says and have a chat with your GP just to be on the safe side.

Stick with it Garry your doing great pal, your body is bound to change because it is clearing all the bad chemicals out of it that smoking brings with it.

Pete.

Hi Garry, I've stopped now since 1994 - thats when I decided that I would like to help others to help each other to stop smoking. As Pete (Monky) says, it does get easier. With regards to having stomach pains whilst using the patches, this is something that I have not come across. If you are concerned, maybe raise this with your GP.

Sometimes we may have to face a few challenges along the way, hopefully it will be these challenges that will spur us on to stay stopped!

There is plenty of support available and lots of friendly people here on QuitSupport. So keep us posted on how you are. You are doing great and are heading in the right direction :-)

Hi Emjay, I spelt easyer like this to see if anybody was awake on this site, ha ha if you believe that your as daft as I am gal, sorry I take after my Dad at spelling, flipping 'hopeless' gal.

You've been stopped for 18 years now then, may I ask you how you stopped smoking Emjay.

Pete.

Hey Pete, whats a little bit of difference in the spelling of a word between friends eh?!

Once I finally decided to quit for good, I joined a 6 week stop smoking course run at my local GP Surgery. I used a crafeaway cigarette for a week and then left it at my friends and totally forgot about it until my friend reminded me - a week later. That's when I panicked without it! I soon got over it though and here I am today, still smokefree and happy :-)

By using extra help and support such as this forum, or your local stop smoking service, you are four times more likely to stop smoking for good.
