Its been almost a month since I quit, but im ... - Quit Support
Its been almost a month since I quit, but im slowly getting more and more depressed and tearful, should i see the doctor?
Hi Linda, really sorry to hear you're feeling down. If your mood has changed since you quit and you aren't feeling good then we would always advise that you go to see your doctor to talk it through. Good luck. Emma
Hi Linda, I do hope you're feeling much better. Try and turn this feeling on it's head by realising that feeling this way is actually a positive sign that your body is learning to deal with living without nicotine. There are many ups and downs, highs and lows of giving up smoking it really is amazing how it can affect you. This feeling wil go away, whether you have a cigarette or not, I promise. Just try and keep positive, remember why it is that you are giving up smoking in the first place... Think of that lovely designer bag you have just bought with the money you have saved.
You have nothing to lose by going to the Doctor. Talking can help. Think how far you have come and what a positive step you have taken to free yourself from the cigarettes. Your self esteem should be getting better as you are already a non smoker. Take care Linda and please do not think that cigarettes will make you feel better, they will only make you feel worse. If in doubt make an appointment to see the Doctor
Hi Linda, we haven't heard from you for a couple of days and would love to know how you are. Take Care...
Hi....Ive been to the doctors today and he has given me some anti-depressants, so hopefully they will help me sleep and I will start to feel more human! He wants to see me in a month.....Im afraid I gave in yesterday and had a cigarette, just the one and to be honest after loving the first half of it I started to feel sick....I didnt buy any so Ive not given in completely....I hust havve to be strong and not be around people who smoke at the moment.....
Oh and I forgot to say that the friend who was giving up with me actually started again last week, so that didnt help me....
Hi Linda, glad you spoke to your doctor. When giving up smoking, quite often the thought of smoking is a lot better than actually the act of smoking itsel. It sounds like you discovered this for yourself.
Rather than focus on the one cigarette that you had, just think of all the ones you didn't have.
We are always going to have friends or family that smoke, some of whom would like to stop themselves, however we have to prepare ourselves for the fact that these people may sometimes be our excuses for going back to smoking... When this happens we have to plan ahead and use them as our biggest motivators and reasons for staying quit. Remember to practice your breathing exercises too. You have come so far on this journey, so keep up the good efforts. Your doing brilliant.
