Thanks Yvonne, I've just popped onto the forum - I find myself doing this whenever I have a bad craving, and so far there's always been a post that has helped! Two weeks is a danger point for me (well known from previous attempts at giving up). I've started to put on weight (which I really don't need to do!), and that little devil on my shoulder keeps trying to tell me that it would be better to keep my weight under control than to give up smoking. I am not going to listen to him ... so trying to find ways of distracting myself during cravings that don't involve calories. So far this site is working ... so thank you!
I totally get that. On my last quit I realised how much of a trigger that was for me too! And one of the big reasons that caused me to be a serial quitter. I had to just keep it one day at a time, I started going out for walks more, and chewing lots of chewing gum. And kept saying to myself whatever happens I will deal with one thing at a time, Which was true. I still fluctuate with my weight, but no different now to when I was a smoker, so it does level out.
Thanks Cloe, chewing gum now on the shopping list! I've been using boiled sweets, but far too much sugar for this to be a long term solution. When I've tried to give up previously, I usually end up back where I started (ie. smoking again) but half a stone heavier. I'm just going to embrace the weight gain for now though, that can be a problem for later in the year! I already do a lot of walking and that helps a lot too.
Hi Jasfe. I hated the thought of putting weight on when I stopped smoking as well as other heath problems I had I think I hit a wall in the end I started to look at things differently got into exercise eating better and having a more positive look on things π Iβve always liked to dance π and love music so I used that as a distraction πyes I did put weight on but my body was more healthier not smoking and in time the weight started to shift aswell π im back to a healthy weight now but would still like to lose a little more but who wouldnβt π€ͺπ€·ββοΈπ π your doing amazing and seem to be determined stay positive youβve got this πͺeverything will fall into place you should be very proud of yourself your doing fab ππxxxx
Thank you Yvonneh1234! I think in the past I actively look for reasons to give in to the temptation. And weight gain was the easy one to blame. But I'm trying to be more self-aware this time, and giving up smoking has got to be healthier choice. I like the idea of dancing through a craving ... another trick to add to the arsenal! π
I used to be the same ππ€ͺπ€the determination I had to quit smoking I put into losing weight aswell I think itβs all about moderation in food what you have ?I be careful what I eat now but still have treats ππ good luck π€ and I love dancing it distracts you keeps you positive and your still been active but enjoying it aswell ππͺxxx
