First time quitting in 25 years, cold turkey.... - Quit Support
First time quitting in 25 years, cold turkey. Haven't use any other nrts. I am at 48 hours now, and feel miserable, I need a cig, help!
Hi Elenapoli, welcome to this great site
Well you have made the huge step of quitting and managed two days, that's fantastic, especially cold turkey
We have all been through this whether we have quit cold turkey or by using NRT's. It doesn't take that long for the horrible toxins to leave your body so stick with it, there is light at the end of the tunnel
The good people on this site recommend writing out a list of why you smoke, why your stopping, when are your habit cigs, when do you most crave one...... You can breathe your way out of a craving as they don't normally last that long
Whatever happens stay with it, keep positive and smoke free.... you will feel better in the long run - I promise -x-
Thank you droppyJ. I am at the point where I am wondering if this is worth going on... I so much crave a cig now, that words are too poor to explain! I tried making a list, but honestly I want to give up to see my kids growing, not that I have any health issues. In other words one half of my brain says: Give up now! The other one says: You enjoy it! You don't have healthy issues! Go on! So, I am stacked between the two, and I feel so depressed as I have never felt. As a matter of fact I have never been depressed, never took medication for anything ... never ...felt so miserable... I am fighting myself not only the habit, and cravings, and don't know what to do
Elen, flippin gooooo thump a cushion or something, get rid of this state your in it WILL get easier for you, you have to keep thinking to yourself, THIS IS WHAT YOU WANT
Because you want to live you want to watch your kids grow up you want to smell nice again you want lovely healthy skin you want lovely white teeth gal, the list is endless
Take some deep breaths, sit yourself down, and make a list plus not just one list, cos I also want you to write a list of what makes you happy
Soooooo, what you waiting for gal get flippin writing
Monky, the thing is I HAVE to, I NEED to, as I have two little ones, but I doubt I REALLY, HONESTLY WANT TOO. Nevertheless, 5 more hours and I will be at 72 HOURS .... I am so angry desperately furiously angry now ... God feels good to write it! Thank You!
YESSSSSSS gal, get it out of your systemmmmm
You flippin shout scream have a tantrummmmmm but try to get rid of it
I've posted the breathing exercise, just try it and see what you think
Monky, sorry being new to this ... where I can find your post?
Elenapoli, DON'T PANIC........ Listen it's hard giving up, truly it is, I reckon that most of us on this site have tried more than once to kick the habit... so we know how your feeling. You haven't had a smoke in two days, smoking DOES NOT make you feel any better, believe me its just your brain trying to trick you... DONT LISTEN TO IT...
You no longer smell, you have more money in your pocket, you will live longer, your health improves, your taste buds will start to work properly, your sense of smell will improve but the main thing is you are not putting over 4000 toxic chemicals into your body....
If you have a really bad craving then why don't you get some NRT Lozenges.... for when you are really desperate ? you may never use them but it will be like your comfort blanket
When Monky has had a big old craving he took himself off for a walk or got on his rowing machine, for me its coming onto this site and having a chat
Keep the faith, stay strong and positive and together we will do our hardest to support you, just take it one day at a time
Thank you DroopyJ, I have an electronic cig, I think 0.4 mg nicotine. What keeps me from using it is that soon I will be at 72 hours with no nic at all. But I am so desperate right now, that I got into this site to talk just to keep myself off any nicotine, and also to validate my decision. That quitting is the right thing to do. I am blessed by God I think, that I do not smell cig if I smoke one, granted I smoke light menthol cigs. I am fit after two kids (only 107, and 5.6). I have beautiful complexion, and only very old friends, that know me, know some changes might be from cig. The hardest part to overcome like you said, is the mental part: my brain tricking me. In 5 more hours I will be at 72 hours ...
I gave up with patches and am now nic free for almost 4 weeks but still carry a spare patch and lozenges in my handbag just in case... would rather have a bit of nicotine than start smoking again
But this site does help me stop going to the shops and buying cigs Also if you don't smoke there's a very good chance that your children won't either
Thank you droopyJ for your help. I do have to say that you and Monky helped me. I feel a bit more relaxed, or maybe the craving have lessen for now :)!
As for my kids, none of my parents were smokers, both I and my brother smoke (-ed)! My brother being a doctor, although he quit five years ago! It is not a rule, and sometime is exactly the opposite :)!
Yeah but do you really want your beautiful children to see or know that you smoke
NO You are right :)!
Thank you Monky. I have one of your previous messages in front of me and keep reading it... it helps... "hold your head up high and feel proud of yourself for BEATING Mr nic cos I tell you, he is one hell of a chap to beat ! " THANK U AND ALL OF YOU! 4 more hours!
Good then keep that thought, up front and centre and it will help your quit go a bit easier
I am droopyJ ... kids asleep, that helps 2! I keep reading the posts here, but I am more calmer than an hour ago!
well that's just fabidoooo, must be nice to get a few hours to yourself......

Aup Elen, its lovely to meet you, a big warm welcome to this lovely quit site as Droopy says and a massive big well done to you for reaching 48 hours on your quit trail I bow down to you for going it, cold turkey
Yep, you will feel miserable and want a flippin fag, BUT, you stay strong and keep focused on your quit, then look back at the hard time, hold your head up high and feel proud of yourself for BEATING Mr nic cos I tell you, he is one hell of a chap to beat !
I have full faith in you, cos I know you can do this
Ermmm, just wandering if you have tried Emjays breathing exercise No 1 cos that does help Dont you flippin give in now it can only get better
THANK you Monky for your encouragements. Likewise, lovely to meet you, 2! I am a wreck now, and almost crying. Trying my best not to give in ... God this is the hardest think I have ever done, giving birth seems like a breeze :)! What is Emjays breathing exercise? Could you advise, please?
It gets easier with each day, just try to get thrugh the next hour, then take it an hour at a time. Try not to think that its forever, just for today, one hour at a time. You can do it!! I am 24 days off them now and every day I feel better and better!!! Keep it UP!!!!!!
Hi Elen, yeah it's soooooooh hard BUT you CAN do it
You have to fight fight and fight some more but you CAN do it
Cold turkey isn't something I have done but some people on here have and the first few days are really a struggle but you CAN do it
Hang in there and keep telling yourself you CAN do it
We all have a hard time and we are all here for one another
Sending hugs to help you x
Thank you both Heatherlp9 and Briarwood. I am hanging on to your replies so I don't go out and get a pack. I am just wondering how strong this addiction and those components from the cigs are to mess our body and brain so bad that you have to fight them with all your being, and in the same time still desire them!
Hello Elenapoli.
I just wanted to let you know that I am looking up to you. For being as strong as you are. Not giving in... and taking control of your life.
Rite you lovely bunch, I've got to go to my bed now, cos I tell you, I flippin NEED my beauty sleep see
Soooo, I will say nite nite to you all and i hope you have the most sweetest dreams ever and a lovely nights sleep
Thank you all for helping me to get through tonight, cos this is the hardest time for me on my quit trail, the evenings, I thank you again

Hey Elen you may want to delete the post with your email address on it hun as you might get inundated with messages from other people not from this site and unwanted SPAM....
You can message someone on here privately but I have no idea how that works.....
I understand completely about the whole emotional side... I feel like my ups and downs are like rollar coaster ups and downs. I just keep thinking every time I turn it down and say no... makes me feel that much stronger! Elenapoli=STRONG!!! Especially with your 2 kids looking up to you
Just click on the edit button attached to that post and delete it..... if you come back on the site tomorrow and post 'how do you message privately' someone will be able to talk you thru it..
That way you can stay safe , coz thats want we want hun
Now I really must go to bed or Ill be fit for nothing -x-
