Hi Blenheimlady, welcome to Quit Support :-)

So we can help you out some more I need to ask you a couple of questions first;

1. How many each day do you smoke?

2. Will you be using nicotine replacement therapy (NRT)?

3. What are your reasons for quitting?

4. Do you have a particular time to quit smoking by - for exampe, within 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month?

Having the answers to these questions will help me to understand what advice is best to offer you.

The best advice that I would offer is to really think about any past quit attempts, think about how you are going to do it this time and also plan, plan, plan towards a quit date, set your quit date and then get excited about it :-)

Have a read through the following post to get you started;

healthunlocked.com/quitsupp.......

Have a good nosie through all the blogs and questions as I'm sure they will help too.

You've come to the right place and together we can all do this... :0)

Go for it!

Good evening LadyB, I hope you dont mind but I've cut your name down a bit, cos its easier on my 1 typing finger see :)

Firstly, I would like to give you a big warm welcome to this lovely quit site gal :) there is loads of help and advice for you, when you need it :)

So your just 33 gal, your are in your prime of life :) Soooo, this is the time to do it, like you say, for health reasons :) Our lovely Emjay has given you loads of great advice, but please try to plan your quit, sit yourself down, get a pen and paper, and think, what part of the day, do you really want a ciggie ? where do you need a ciggie ? what are you doing when you want a ciggie ? and write these down :) Then go back to them, and think, how you can change these trigger points :) Like are you going to use any NRT, Nicotine Replacement Therapy to help you quit ? Change your habits ! Change the times you do things ! and so on, all these little things add up to help you :)

I hope I've made sense and good luck on your trek :)

Hopefully speak soon, Pete :)

Thank you for all your replies.

Em jay; I currently smoke about a pack of 30 a day and have smoked since the age of 14 (not a pack a day but have smoked since 14) :-(

I'd really like to give up due to a concern over lung cancer, emphasima, COPD etc etc later on in life. I already get a lot of chest complaints - this seems to be my weak point. I would also like to give up for the sake of my 3 beautiful boys. I don't want to leave them with out a mummy any earlier than absolutely necessary!

I have a had a quit attempt a few months back for which I used champix and lasted about 6 weeks. The tablets made me feel quite sick and I was piling on weight!

I am due to go on holiday in about 4 weeks and have been dieting like mad! I'm not sure whether it would be best to quit on my return from holiday , but that's another 6 weeks!

Pete; no problem with shortening my name!!! Thanks for your support... I'm really starting to think about what will make my attempt successful this time!

Take the bull by the horns and go for a total quit. Best thing you can do.
