Rita's Passing

My beautiful wife of almost 49 years passed away on 4-4-13. She was diagnosed with PSP in 2008 at the Mayo Clinic. She suffered but never complained so now she is free of this horrible disease & is in a better place being an angel as she always was. Doug

Dear Doug

Sorry for your loss.

You're right, it is a horrible disease which robs the person of themselves. So little is known about as well that I feel completely alone sometimes.

Take care.

Dear Doug,

I am so sorry to hear about Rita and whilst a relief for both of you from this horrible disease it is still a very sad time for you.

At least now you will be able to remember Rita as the person she was not the person with psp.

Take care and be kind to yourself.

Rita was also my mom. She was the most caring, kind and compassionate person you could ever meet, she really was an angel on earth and now is watching over us from above! I want to thank Health Unlocked and it's members for sharing information and stories about this horrible disease, (PSP). My dad (Doug) has been my mom's sole caregiver, he forwarded my brother and I the Health Unlocked web blog, so we also could read about this disease and relate to what other people are going through. When my mom was first diagnosed we had no idea what this disease was about, and through Cure PSP as well as Health Unlocked we were able to find information, support, as well as have a connection with other people and caregivers that are effected by PSP. My dad, like my mom, is also the most wonderful, caring and patient person I know. As hard as it was to watch my mom in her final days, at least we know now she is at peace. No more suffering, choking, falling or helplessness. I hope and pray some day they will find a cure for this disease.

Rita was the most beautiful person, inside and outside that I have ever known. There is nothing that Rita couldn't do. She was super athletic, very creative and an incredible teacher until PSP took it's toll on her. I miss her very much but keep reminding myself she is no longer suffering and she is watching over all of us.- our "Forever Angel"

Rest in Peace! God Love You!

Dear Doug & Laurel,

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. I too lost my Dad In December 2012 to this horrible disease. May God give the strength to get through and hopefully sometime in the future may you remember the beautiful person that was your wife/mother.

Hugs

I also read your daughter Laurel's comments. My husband died in June 2012 of PSP although to me it seems like yesterday. We were lovers, friends and confidants and it broke my heart to lose him but I too was his sole caregiver and watched him deteriorate over the years.....it broke my heart. However, I knew I did everything I could to improve his quality of life during those years and he was active right to up to the last day. Your wife sounds like she was a saint....and my husband Terry was too but struggling.....he wasn't ready to leave but knew he had no choice. The one thing he was adamant about was to find a cure for this disease so others would not suffer as he did. I feel your pain Doug but you have the right approach.....remember the good times....that's what I do. God Bless everyone on this Blog...I normally don't comment but read to get input for my PSP Support Group which I lead once a month in Annapolis, Maryland. It gives me peace to continue helping in whatever way I can.

Dear Doug and Laurel (and your son/brother),

My deepest condolences on your loss. Rita must have been a fabulous wife and mother to inspire such heartfelt and obvious love and devotion. I hope you can hug each other loads in the next few weeks and months as you come to terms with your loss, and spend time sharing memories of happier times.

Lots of love
