I was diagnosed with PSAP in March of 2011. The problem is I am depressed along with other symptoms of PSP. What anti-depressants work?

My husband had PSP and he was given Mitazapan (sp?) which seemed to help him. I was also given Citalopram which made a huge difference to me coping with Peter. Certainly your GP should be able to prescribe an AD which would suit you but give advance warning when you make an appointment as in my experience GPs have little or no knowledge of the condition. I would use whatever my neurologist prescribed since he would have a better knowledge of PSP than some GP might. Just my thoughts. However, please be aware that many drugs may work differently in a PSP patient. I'd choose to not go to any anti depressent unless my dear wife really, really, really needed it. I'm not big on taking meds unless absolutely required. That's must me. Everyone has to make their own decision. Remember, there ARE side effects with most medications, particularily those involving the brain. Not advising against a drug just use caution.

My dad tried Doxepin at first but then was changed to Amitriptlyine by our PSP specialist. Amitriptlyine worked really well for my dad.

Amitriptyline works for me but is so constipating. I find it is good for sleep! I believe my depression won't be helped by drugs..

Yes - just about every mediacation for PSP can cause constipation - we used miralax and senna to help. Miralax is great because it has no taste but it can be hard to thicken - applesauce is the best - -miralax will thin yogurt and it won't thicken in water.

Mum used Fluoxetine and Seroquel they both helped. Seroquel is better if you have some agitation and will help with sleep. Just remember it will take an antidepressant some time to work prob about two weeks maybe a month. Look after your self and just try to keep positive I know how hard that can be.

I AM ON DULOXETINE AND TRAZADOEN (REPLACED SEROQUEL)0 I HA VE TAKEN SOME SORT FO ANTI DEP FOR 30 YEAERS PLSU AND THERE IWLL B 1 TO SUTI YOU

AS 1 OF HTE OHTERS SAYS IT IS TRIAL AND ERROR ANDM IT CNA TKAE 4-6 WEEKS TO WORK BTU WOULD BE WORTH IT
