My husband uses a wheelchair outside the house and the local barber shop is not accessible. I have been unable to find a mobile hairdresser locally. Has anyone else had this problem. Although he is 70 he still has a full thick head of hair. I would appreciate any suggestions although I don't know if there is any answer to this.

Haircut problems
Hi gp1943 - it is a problem you're right. I've just taken my husband to have his haircut as he is still able to walk, just about. The hairdresser gave him what I would call a "senior skinhead", very short but all the family seem to like it! Have you thought of getting a barber's grooming kit from Boots etc, look on line, the hairsdresser suggested it, I'm going to check it out.
good luck

I love that term: senior skinhead! I did get a kit and it came with a DVD that I watched while I learned to cut his hair. Hubby suggested it, but I was scared. Finally I relented he we've been doing it for almost a year now. No one notices the difference---except me, as I want to tidy up different areas all the time.
Thanks Dorothy, I'll look into it. Who knows I might end up adding it to my other 'skills'. Since my husband became ill I've had to tackle all the wee repair jobs that he would normally do. Its amazing what you can do when you have to. We do have a local service for the elderly which will do jobs around the house free of charge, you only pay for materials used, but if its a small thing I have tried myself before calling them in.
Hi
I've had the same problem with access but now found a good mobile hairdresser, I hated using my precious carers time off to sit in the hairdressers/barbers and for myself too. Have you asked at your local day centre if the hairdresser goes there? Even if your husband doesn't attend it's worth asking if you can use the facilities, they might know a mobile hairdresser.
Good luck

What area do you live in
Hi
If you have signed in and click on a persons 'name' you can often see where they live and other information about them if they have put this on their profile. You can also find people in your area if you click on the Directory and -in my area.
Thanks Lorri-2. Thought of that after I posted lol . Too far for me to pop around to help out I am in S Wales
Have been cutting my husbands hair for 54 yrs . He persuaded me to but a small toothcomb/razer from Woolworths we had been married for one year at the time . . Upgraded after all these years to a trimmer . ..Not that he has got as much hair these days .
I'm a hairdresser in Dallas Texas. When I have people come to my salon in wheelchairs and they can't get out of the chair., I cut their hair in the chair. It really isn't hard . I can't believe nobody has suggested that. Next time you call someone ask if they would cut his hair in the wheelchair . They can slide the hydraulic chair over and push the wheelchair up. And clip or cut away. I would have his hair clean so they won't have to shampoo. Good luck!!
It is just a thought but at mum's care home they have a mobile hairdresser who does 2 days and I am sure she does other places. Maybe you could enquire at your local care home too.
