Has anyone seen the short film A Short Stay In Switzerland? Julie Walters is in it.

I watched it in 2008/09 and thought it was very hard hitting.

Having watched it again it doesn't seem as bad as I thought it was and as relevant to my story (every stories different).

I was just wondering what people thought of it.

You can still watch in on YouTube but you will have to watch it in parts. Well worth a watch though.

hi Hannah

i watched it on U tube and it gave me another perspectivw on my PSP - I coudld be in control of the disease adn decide that enough is enough i e b4 i can no longer do anything 4 myself or commmnicate with anyone

Preservation of life at any cost is not something i hvave ever wanted

BUT the doctors are not in favour..on the whole

i also watched d Terry Pratchett on BBc on Monday evening reinforcing the desire for choice in

Cost is v high and it needs to be done whilst the patient can still travel & commuinicate

Hi hannah

i watched it it was very good it gives another perspective to psp,

but every body with psp aren't going to get the same symptoms

as each other , Ive been to quite a lot of group meetings and

ive met a lot of people with psp and they have all had diffrent

symptons i just wish i could meet more people with cbd so i can see what

will happen to me, I think if the person with psp if they are in a sound

state of mind should be able to choose if they live or die i hope when

my time comes every body in my family will grant me my wish i know

it will be hard for the kids but its better than watching every body

suffer.

I watched some of it when it was first shown; Mum's diagnosis was fairly recent at that time so I couldn't bear to watch all of it. I was fundamentally opposed to both euthanasia and assisted suicide but I have questioned my views as time as gone by and Mum's condition has deteriorated. My views have not changed but I am, I hope, now a little more understanding of why others might feel differently.

Hi there,

I watched it when it was first shown and I cried all the way through. I knew someone that this had happened to and it was like stepping into their world which was really tough to watch. Also, at that point I had never really seen anyone other than Dad with PSP and was pleased (in a funny way) that it brought the disease into the spotligh for a while, even though the film was really about assisted suicide. The thing with PSP is that its so different for everyone so getting an accurate portrayal is really difficult.

Hi,

I watched this when it first came out but it was fairly soon after Mum was diagnosed. The major frustration I found was that it didn't give any sense of time scales i.e how long from diagnosis to deteriorating to the point where she went to Switzerland. As time as gone on I have realised that everyone is different and the disease progresses at different rates for everybody. There is no "standard" in PSP!

Hello,

I watched it and found it very sad, but the main protagonist's symptoms were quite different to those of my dad's that I felt that it didn't represent PSP as well as I would've liked, or at least didn't portray what my dad and us are going through - but that goes to show the differing nature of the illness.

Like people have said, it was more about euthanasia than PSP.
