Hi,
I started trying hypnotherapy to alleviate pain and Freezing of Gait, but not feel any benefit, may be due to having only two sessions. Did anybody of you tried and what were the results?
Kind regards

Thank you for bringing up this topic! I would be surprised if hypnotherapy on its own could give lasting effect for the symptoms of PSP.
However hypnotherapy often uses elements of "neuro linguistic programming" (NLP) i.e. anchoring verbal instructions that influence how the brain works - "re-programming" certain feelings and actions. It is definitely effective on healthy young brains - it's what often is used to treat phobias (I used to be terrified of spiders) or aid weight loss, stop smoking etc.
It might be that a partner/carer could be trained to apply NLP situationally for the PSP patient. It would be a more targeted version of what many of us would have done instinctively, like the rhythmic "step step step step" command to keep someone walking through a doorway...
If you ask your hypnotherapist, please let us know what they think of it!
Best wishes

It's interesting you mention NLP. I think if one is introduced to it earlier in the diagnosis, they will see some benefit (my view). "Step step step step" is a good example. My daily mantra is "retrain my brain retrain my brain retrain my brain..." "Exercise exercise exercise", exercise induced neuroplasticity is real. Neuroplasticity can maintain neuronal connections, strengthen weakened ones, and even create new connections. I believe it has kept me ahead of this damn disease... for the most part.
