about two days ago my partner suddenly stopped being able to swallow or communicate. Tonight she has rolled into a foetal position and if I try to move her her face screws up in pain. I will phone my GP on Monday but it is pointless phoning 999 as she has already made the decision she doesn’t want any invasive interventions or resuscitation. Is it possible to have this awful disease to have progressed at this lightening speed?

very rapid decline
That’s not a usual progression. I’d say that such sudden changes are often a sign of a UTI. That said, the treatment, with antibiotics, might not bring her back all the way to where she was. So sorry you and she are having to go through this.
that’s exactly what happened to my mum, rolled on her side, when carers tried to deal with her she screamed in pain, when they tried to put her in her back, dr said it was nerve pain ?? I’m sorry to say my mum passed away about 10 days after this started, it was incredibly fast and so unexpected as her decline had been so gradual before, does yr partner have a palliative care nurse? I would call them, they were so invaluable, take care of yourself, sending big hugs xx
Thank so much for your answer. At the moment waiting for the out of hours GP, which has already been7hrs. We have palliative carer but without a prescription for the proper medicine they can do nothing.
I we nt from walking and able to toilet myself to where I amtoday virtually bedridden!so yes it can come onsudenly andftewrds they told me id had aspiration pneumonia brought on by food lodging in my lungs, get.it checked out I also have trouble swallowing and in hospital they put me on a puréed diet which was all dried up and I couldn’t even eat that.Thankfully I was only in a week, long enough though
