HI Everyone, We are building a new ground floor wetroom and bedroom for my husband with PSP. I have been looking at wet/dry toilets and would be grateful of any advice and recommendations

* Brands and products I can search for

* wet and dry or wet only

* can you use a wheel over comode chair and still use the wet/dry function

* do you have a hoist linking bed and bathroom

many thanks 😊

HI Millidog!

Know you will get all the useful answers from our UK caregivers. I live in NZ. I hope the custom made facilities will make your husband's ablutions a lot easier for you and your helpers.

I have 1 comment from observation. My husband was in hospital while suffering from CBD and was cared for by carers on properly equipped wards. I noted 1 time when they used a commode chair to wheel hubby over toilet before showering him. For whatever reason, there was not enough clearance between the commode, the toilet and the patient to fit him over the toilet, resulting in a very uncomfortable experience for the patient. Maybe the seat had not been lifted. (?) Don't know or understand why it happened, but it should not have!!

So make sure clearances are correct and good care is taken of him!

Hugs

We have a wet room. The patient is transferred by the bedside ( with a mobile hoist) to the shower chair with wheels which will go over the toilet. We have a self clean / dry toilet ( Gerberit) then wheeled to the shower area for a shower. It has worked well for us.

Hi Kasenda, many thanks for your information. Could I be a little cheeky and ask for more- which type of Gerberit i know there are a few and type of shower chair. If you have any pictures that would be wonderful. Also does the shower chair go over the toilet easily and can the wash dry facility still be used? Many thanks

Yes the shower chair will go over the Geberit toilet and yes the facilities can be used. I will try to send you photos.

Millidog,

Ruth can still do transfers with a rotastand so no need for a hoist or shower seat arrangement yet. We have a R Flory FDB300 bidet wash/dry toilet seat - not expensive from Amazon - and has worked really well for over a year now.

Richard 🙂
