random limb movement

Hi all psp warriors and superhero carers,I have a quick question.my mum has psp diagnosed December 2019 she still can walk ...more like a shuffle ,and the right side is the more effected side,leg dragging and tremor. However I have noticed in the last few days when sitting in her chair she randomly lifts up her right leg ,fir what appears no reason it's lifted up and out bent in a bent position. I have asked what she is doing but can be met woth multiple answers from nothing to climbing over to escape but she says she is doing this action herself...

my question is ..could this be a random muscle contraction causing the movement associated with psp or am I looking at a possible infection without any signs .I.e temp is all good

has anyone had or got any of this random limb movements?

Yes we have experience with this and at first my love one says she is doing it. Then finally more things started happening ex going near her always startle hers she jumps, her eyebrows start tap dancing when she is speaking and her arms jumping in her sleep. It's nothing they can control but maybe fearful of admitting it. My loved one always has a reason of why things are happening I call it her truth... muscle relaxers had to may adverse effects so we just joke about it when something happens. Yes that happens, my mom’s right leg is frequently ‘reaching out’ and her right hand also does odd things. It’s called Alien Limb syndrome and is usually described as a feature of corticobasilar syndrome, though it could be one of the overlapping symptoms that also occur with PSP.

I like the 'psp warriors and superhero carers' bit - damned right! Ruth has CbD that affects her right side. Her right foot turns in because of dystonia. This causes pain in the right groin. To relieve the pain she often raises her right leg and stretches it out. Similarly she reaches out with her right arm at night - again to stretch it.

So maybe this is something similar (or it could be just alien limb syndrome....... as mentioned?)

Thank you all for your replies ,they are gratefully received . I shall mention this to the parkinsons nurse ,if I can ever get a reply from them. It seems its just another beautiful twist of this glorious affliction.Hope you all have a good ish day 🙃

Evidently nothing medically can be done to help Alien Limb Syndrome. My right hand is lovingly named Crazy Hand & she definitely does not listen to my brain. I have had this condition for several years and used to try to joke about my Alien Limb... but there is nothing funny about it. When going to the dentist l strap the arm down because l fear it will fly through the air. Also holding small ball in my hand seems to help a little.

Through the years l have read about these symptoms from others on this site. Sending hugs of encouragement & understanding... Granni B
