After 13 days without food or water, my courageous mother peacefully passed away.
She had aspiration pneumonia and a compacted bowel due to constipation.
Even though she could no longing speak or swallow and was in a princess chair, she fought so hard to stay with us. She wanted to live evening with a battled body. Her GP and nursing staff could not believe how strong her heart stayed while the rest of her body failed.
A strong educated women who was determined not to let this disease rob her of staying with us. .
If we had more education re this PSP journey we could have help her more. Here in Australia there is little help, we learned as we went. So often we were not able to predict what was going to happen. This is why the constipation got out of control.
Can I thank all of my healthunlock friends. You have provided us with so much knowledge and because we have felt alone here in Australia, your support every time I have posted a question has been appreciated.
Mum loved holding my hand so tightly.

So sad to read if your loving mum’s death. She sounds an amazingly strong and courageous woman. You will miss her terribly on the road ahead but remember death is only a physical parting, she is with you in spirit willing you on, encouraging you to face the future and to keep breathing. Sending gentle hugs from me to you. I’ve been where you are now. It’s now time for you to heal and to recover from the ordeal that caring for your mum during the final journey. Remember mum is at peace. She has beaten this horrid disease She’s free. You’ll miss her but as others will say death is only a physical parting her spirit lives in on your heart. Take each day little by little and take time for you now
Our family put a death notice in the local paper and mentioned the name of the disease Mum died of.
I am not sure what I will do but after I have healed a little from this terrible journey, I will try to increase the awareness of PSP in our surrounding area.
The hardest part was the lack of knowledge and support for mum and her family during the fight with PSP.
I will definitely continue to read and offer any help I can give to this forum.
It was so comforting to have your guidance and support.

So so sorry for your loss. Your Mom sounds like an amazing and incredibly strong woman. Be comforted knowing that she’s at peace now and finally free from the daily assault of this horrible disease. Take time for yourself now. Stay safe and be strong.
