Does anybody know whether the tau in the brain moves around, or does it just continue to build up over time? I ask this because my husband can be totally unable to move unaided and yet within minutes he can get out of his chair and walk to the kitchen and back! It seems that biscuits are a great motivator - if he wants one he can be determined to get it! I have to say that selfishly I prefer him to stay in his chair because any independent movement is highly likely to result in a fall (which he has on average one a day - luckily so far no serious injuries)

Not sure but impulse is a behavioural symptom and does lead to falls. Must remind him to be careful and perhaps move the biscuit tin within reach from his chair.
I don't know the reason why this happens I'm afraid but I know exactly what you are experiencing. My Dad's mobility is as variable as your husband's. He is able to move and get out of his chair unaided whenever he is seized by an impulse to get up, and he will inevitably have a fall - at any other time, he needs 1 or 2 people to help him up. It's incredibly difficult keeping him under supervision all the time and no amount of reminding him to be careful has any impact on the impulsive behaviour.
