Hello from the MSA community - I have a question about a leaking PEG?

I have a great fondness for this community as a few years ago you gave me the inspiration to press the MSA trust to start a dedicated MSA community on HealthUnlocked - we now have over 600 members from many parts of the globe.

I have a question about a PEG! Has anyone got experience of a PEG that leaks and how it may be rectified? It's definitely not an infection and the PEG tube itself is no problem it's just as if the PEG tube is too small for the hole in the stomach and hence it leaks.

The medical profession's best advice seems to be to constantly have swabs around the tube to 'mop up' any leakage but this is a nuisance and not ideal for Jackie. I'm sure some inventive person out there has come up with a better solution....any ideas?

Good luck to you all; I still keep a watchful eye on this community as well as the MSA one. Take care, Ian

We use a gauze square around the tube ,taped to itself, just underneath the fixation clamp. this seems to keep any leakage confined.

Thanks Javan, that's what we do at the moment however we use four layers of gauze and yet it still needs changing a few times a day. Maybe we will just have to put up with doing just that. All best, Ian
