If a person has PSP, do they have mini seizures through this illness? If so, how do these seizures look? My husband was shaking and non-responsive through the weekend but seemed to get better today.

Yes, seizures can happen. They may go on for a while then stop. Let his doctor or nurse know what is happening.

I would also suggest getting home hospice involved. Tell his doctor you want him evaluated at home by hospice. I think he would qualify.

Thank you for your reply. This is something that is not on the information sheets.

You may be told hospice is only for the last 6 months of life. That isn’t true.

Hospice eligibility requirements for neurological conditions:

Structural/functional impairments

Impaired mental function

Impaired sensory function and pain

Impaired neuromusculoskeletal and movement functions

Impaired communication

Impaired mobility

Self-care deficit

Activity limitations

Comorbid and secondary conditions also contribute to a terminal prognosis.

I’m sorry that your husband is going through this. I agree with what Jeff mentioned. His doctor may be able to provide a medication that could help prevent seizures from happening. I also like the idea of getting hospice involved.

My husband has had a few seizures but they have been short in duration and I know that one was caused from a medication withdrawal. Has anything changed recently with your husband’s meds or is he on anything that poses side effects?

I hope that you can get it sorted and please let us know how you’re both getting on.

I don’t know if this is the same, but my dad has what I think are seizures where he jerks backwards all of a sudden (sitting and standing) and freezes / trembles for a while after. Is that similar to your husband?

The trembling is what was observed twice in three days.

Thank you for your response. I had no idea this could happen. The doctor did not give me this information.
