It’s been a while since I last posted. My Mum is, I believe in the advanced stage of PSP. She is chair bound in a nursing home and has majority of the symptoms that come with this stage however the other day I witnessed something I had never seen with her before. Whilst we were talking she suddenly froze, her mouth became disjointed and her eyes shut. She was literally like a statue and didn’t respond for about 3 minutes. When she did come round she told me that she wasn’t able to move.
I thought maybe she had had a stroke or a TIA but the nurse said no.
It happened again twice in the night but very briefly.
Has anyone else had this happen to their loved one?
Many thanks
Carrie

I got a lot of help from this site. Had I been on my own I wouldn’t have had any idea what to expect or when. Doctor’s are no help. We are all left to our own devices.
Dad had several episodes of becoming non-responsive, probably midway thru end stages. He always snapped out of it and usually never remembered it. Sometimes he'd say he just felt like he was floating.
Hi there my brother is 9 years plus symptoms 2 years before DX he went threw that for a few months then it stoped, but they are like frozen, my brother has been on hospice for a month now, I guess just a matter of time now, hate to say it but it will be a blessing when the end comes, PSP is a nightmare to put it mildley.
My father, 87 years of age, has been suffering from prominent symptoms of Psp for 5 years now . It has progressively got worse. He had a similar episode 10 days back . I had taken my mom to the doctor as she had a shooting sciatic pain ..after sometime I got a panic call from the caregiver that something was wrong .. he is frozen .. I rushed back .. By the time I reached home, he was out of it but a little drained .. it had lasted for 5-6 minutes I understand. His motion cycle is once in 6-7 days and takes great efforts from his side and little assistance from us .. That day he had passed his motions after 6 days with great efforts.. Now I have shifted to giving him enema every 4th day . Two of us support him either side and take him for a short walk once a day within the house .. ofcourse we carry half the weight . But I want to avoid circulation issues and bed sores . He is unable to use diaper , doesn’t get in it . So we bring a mobile commode next to his sofa in his room and assist him .
Yesterday he had crying episodes multiple times .. I was really disturbed. It has happened very few times before but yesterday it was happening repeatedly.
I think it’s a painful journey for the patient and the family for whom it’s very difficult to see their loved one in this condition. Patience and loving care is the best we can do . Wishing all in this journey strength to face this !
