Thanks for the suggestions on the constipation relief. We're are improving some with the help of Sennoside S and my concerted effort to get raw veggies and fruits into his diet. Now I need to ask for more advice.
As the swallowing continues to deteriorate, meal have become more of a challenge. Shredded chicken over mashed potatoes is a popular meal and goes down without issue. as do soups. Yogurt works well and he eats it twice a day. He's also found of eggs and with my little backyard flock, he gets wholesome, free range eggs that are wonderful. However the diet is getting more and more limited. I don't think we are at puree yet, but I would love suggestions for soft, easy to chew and swallow meals. Thank you!

Chris managed soft foods for quite a while and I only pureed foods for the last few weeks. I added eggs, cream and cheese to mashed potatoes. Cooked fish and chicken in creamy sauces. Made sure everything was soft. When we needed pureed foods I used a stick blender to reduce minced meat down further and pureed vegetables and soups. I bought in soft puddings, jellies, creme caramels and mouses, anything to keep up the calorie intake.
Once my husband was on puréed food it became easier to feed him as most things purée down. Before that, however, I started buying more tinned food which I had never done before, or since. Tins of minced beef are much softer than cooked fresh mince and C loved it made into a cottage pie with chopped tinned tomatoes. The tomatoes also kept his bowels moving. Tinned tuna went down well and I gave him sweet potato mash. Omelette with mashed corn beef added. Thick home made soups containing many different root veggies. Fresh salmon cooked in foil in the oven with tinned tomatoes, finely chopped onion and chopped mushrooms. Cheese potato pie, again with a layer of chopped tinned tomatoes at the bottom. I used lots of cheese both in the mash and on top.Puddings were easier. He ate yoghurts daily but also had ice cream with Baileys pourers over it, which he loved. Stewed fruit and custard, trifle, bought chocolate puddings etc.
Lots of gravy is helpful, and I used to give Ian sponge puddings with lashings of custard
It helps to put any tablets on a spoon of yogurt, the tiny yoplait pots are good for that, we have now got a peg fitted, so the feeding stress has gone
Thank you! We have discovered the wonder of Yoplait Whips for taking pills. Steve has also discovered that thickening drinks is not as terrible as he assumed.
