I have been a member for over a year but have never written. However, I read the posts every day. My husband, 76, was DX with Parkinson's in January 2017 and PSP in January 2018 after having his first fall in 2012. He cannot walk and is on a feeding tube after having aspirated pneumonia and an UTI that became septic. Does anyone want to share their experience with their loved one on a feeding tube? We live near Rochester, MN and one of our sons and grandkids took us to the Vikings game last Sunday.

Thanks for sharing the lovely photo of your outing. It looks like fun times! Sorry, I don’t have any experience about a feeding tube. My husband’s wish is to not have one. He also has a DNR in place. His wish is to go peacefully so when the time comes I hope that I’m strong enough to give him what he wants. It’s hard to talk about isn’t it.

My husband has had a feeding tube since March. So far it has been great and without any complications. Is there anything specific you want to know?
What a lovely photo. My late husband had a feeding tube and by being able to go out without worrying about how to get enough nutrition into him, it allowed us to make very happy memories right up until 3 weeks before he died. His skin all over his body improved, he never had aspirational pneumonia (although it can still happen through regurgitation), he put on weight which lifted a weight off my mind. It also gave him the ability to make the most important decision of his life, when he had had enough and wanted to die. The doctor said he was of sound mind so I stopped feeding him and he drifted off peacefully 11 days later without any pain and on no medication. He indicated he was not in pain and didn’t need meds although morphine was here if he changed his mind. Not everyone wants it but life for us became so much easier and my darling indicated (thumbs up) that he had no regrets.
Carry on making happy memories. They will always be with you.

My wife was fitted with a feeding tube in 2016. Our experience was very similar to NannaB's. My wife died in August this year also in similar circumstances.
The nurses indicated her body was shuttling down. We stopped the feed and she died very peacefully a few days later giving me a lovely smile and then breathing her final breath. The feeding tube will give you time for many more happy memories.
