Adjustable bed purchased! A step in the right direction. As some of you know, I have actually been sleeping in the same bed with Mom since June -- in response to a middle of the night fall, and I just couldn't bring myself to sleep in another room out of fear that it would happen again.

So, this has been a good change --- adjustable bed delivered and set up, with a separate twin for me to be near by (just in case). In the picture you can see that this configuration also works for the granddaughters to "chill with MaMa" and binge watch an afternoon of Downton Abbey!

Side rails ordered, and possibly a trapeze bar to help her adjust herself --- one thing at a time.

Lovley.... .we have used an adjustable bed for 9years . long before PSP. came to live with us, one of the best things we bought, the other good buy was an adjustable chair. Problem is where do you stop, so many gadgets that help, some only for a short time..

Exactly! My husband and I were just discussing that point yesterday- it seems that I make a change, and it is just a short window and we are on to new normals, and the adjustment is obsolete. I just ordered a trapeze bar for the bed, she’s having a hard time turning over at night ... so here we go.

Our first purchase last year was her lift chair ... that thing is a Rolls Royce .. uses it everyday, however, most recently I’m tucking a pillow under right side to keep her from leaning. I will come back into the room after maybe 30 minutes and she is scooted down and leaning; looking so uncomfortable - but, she can’t seem to adjust herself.

I find my husband sleeps better on a (V).shaped pillow , it helps keep him from rolling to one side.. some times he can turn to one side, at other times it's impossible , , and he needs some help.. but thats PSP .it likes us to keep solving problems....

Never did I know this was a PSP symptom —- 🧐

I 'm afraid the ability to turn over, is a PSP symptom, until the point it is impossible for them, my husband reached this quite early on, so I would think, before buying the trapeze bar, may be obsolete before it comes, like so many things.

Lots of love

Dad really liked his adjustable bed. If you can get one of those hospital bed tables that slide over the bed. Eventually it will come in handy. I had the ceiling fan remote, TV remote and his "call button" velcro'ed to it. I got tired of being woke up in the middle of night because he lost a remote. Dad used the trapeze bar for a while but when he didn't have the strength to move himself I rigged up a bracket on the trapeze post to hold the bed controls above him. He just had to reach up and press a button to move the bed instead of trying to hold the controller and push a button.

Looks like a great place to hang out with MaMa. Best to make sure you have an electrical outlet or power-bar with surge protection.

Ch sleeps on his back as he can no longer roll over. We use a RE TURN for transfers between bed and wheelchair. We have an old adjustable bed which we keep in the lounge room and call it "the day bed". This is to emphasize the daytime sleeping and the night time sleeping. We were lucky getting the adjustable bed. Our OT had clients who had it (very heavy and taking up room) and as it did not work they wanted it gone. So when we got it home a friend checked out the circuitry and fixed the problem. We painted the chipped paint and it was as good as new. We were lucky. ... cheers val
