Cousins are friends that will love you forever!

While at the cabin this weekend, we surprised mom with a surprise visit from her cousins that were really close during her childhood. They drove three hours to the cabin and spent the afternoon --- incredible happiness, and memories that will last forever.

Kim, there will be few regrets on your part of what you wished you HAD done. All this happiness can only be helping your mom to live physically healthy. Remember Norman Cousins? Laughter (Laurel & Hardy movies) was his self treatment.

Yes, I remember!! I wish had a picture of mom’s face when she saw them getting out of the car outside of the cabin. I said, “Momma they are here to see you” ... she looked at me and said ever so softly, Me? Really?” So sweet and humble, that’s my Momma.

However, the exchange of so many conversations throughout the weekend were overwhelming for her; I saw the exhaustion on her face. It was hard for her to keep up with so many conversations around her ... yet she cannot participate. My heart cried for her ... I try my best to guide everything back to her involvement —- it’s so hard to referee. So ... bittersweet I would say.

Like your mother, I too am finding more things and conversations to be overwhelming and exhausting. I think it is our slowed down brain. Too many things or conversations to process and we become over stimulated.

I experienced it last night playing Bingo. Trying to find a previous number, listening for the next number, watching the cards to see I didn't miss one or miss a win, loud Bingo caller and just 2 people talking to me during the game. I nearly went into meltdown with my emotional lability.

Sometimes we need a referee, like you chose to do, just to calm things down and allow us time to process. Thanks for being there for your mother.
