Has anyone had to cope with having a loved one go into a care home my beloved 92 year old my rock. Suddenly took a stroke now in a nursing home. He was so active before. They seem to run your life. I cannot take him out of grounds until he is assessed . Or threaten me with police. for wheelchair of his own. I cannot take him home for couple of hours only 2minutes from home. Until house assessed. But have to wait months for ramps to house. Want him home but cant get overnight care or what can afford. Now taking all his pension paying £1000 a month. And he worked till he was 75 never had a thing from the state. I am so angry my heart bleeds. I am so depressed. House is empty now. We just lost our lovely 14 year old dog too. Now they put him to bed after 4 hours in chair and i have to argue to get him up again. Lies on wet sheets. Has to wait for toilet then too late. All so degrading feel we have gone to hell.

Where are you?

You are going to have to do the fighting with them. I don’t know what the procedure would be in the U.K.. On top of all the stress and strain add battling for proper care.

I am not sure how the UK handles care homes but in US, least ones I have talked to, you have the right to move the patient any time you wish, after all the money is normally coming out of your pocket. When dad was in a nursing home I set up who could visit and/or remove him from the premises. There was never any talk of where I was talking him or visits to my home to make sure it was properly set up for his needs. I'd have a long talk with the admin of the place plus your local social case worker.

It is hard to keep a clear head when muddling through the puddles... l recommend keeping a journal... writing down all your questions & the name of the person you talk with & their answer... l know this will take time but may prove very valuable in the future. Sending hugs... Granni B
