Feel really rude coming on here after been away so long, but have no one else to ask.

Has anyone had any experience in DVT as I think this is what mum has. The dr is on his way to verify. Mum is in the last stages of PSP

Any advice or experience would be much appreciated. X

Sarah my husband had DVT. I noticed a red line going up his leg and we went to A&E at once. He was given an injection there and nurses came each day to inject him.

This happened before we knew anything else might be wrong. He had the injections until about 2 weeks before he died. Not sure if that has been any help? Hope all goes well with the doctor.

Thank you for this Marie, the dr has given her a course of tablets however to be certain she has to have blood tests followed by a scan.

Can I ask how your husband died, was it due to the DVT? Xx

I have no personal experience with DVT but from what I've heard it's not something to ignore or take lightly.

Sarah

My husband didn't die from DVT but might well have done had he not got his daily injections to thin the blood. For the life of me I can't recall the name of this injection which he had every day! He had to wear elastic stockings too. He actually got DVT a second time too

despite his injections. He had come off them on the advice of the hospital. So one of his consultants recommended he stay on the injections for life as he obviously had a predispitation towards blood clots.

To answer your question he didn't die from them because we got them quickly. However he did die from PSP with signs of MSA.

Good luck to you and your Mum.

I am surviving. Not sure it's living but not sure I know what that is these days.

Sarah, I am the caregiver to my husband, who is a CBD patient. He has not had DVT but I have, following a surgery 9 years ago. What I experienced was a painful, chronic "cramp" under the plaster cast surrounding the leg that was operated on. Saw the surgeon (who fit me in right away when I described symptoms) and she immediately sent me for an ultrasound in the clinic next door to her. The ultrasound, at the time, was considered a very reliable indicator; don't know if there are other, better tools now. Then off to the hospital for three days and intravenous treatment with blood thinners. When I returned to my home, I was instructed to give myself injections each day with a blood thinning drug. It may sound worse than it was; once you learn how to inject yourself it becomes routine and it was 100% effective. Hope this helps and that your husband's situation is improving. Best,

Marilyn

This is worrying as mum has to wait for blood tests to be done(still waiting for nurse to come round) then ultrasound if the bloods show abnormalities. The dr has started treating with tablets but I do question if this is acceptable? Thanks for responding Marilyn x
