A few months ago, I asked for advice on what to purchase to help my husband transfer. After much research, we ended up purchasing a Sara Stedy and I may already have posted about the wonders of this simple device. Just want to restate that this is allowing me to take care of my husband and not hurt myself in the process. Every day, we are thankful for Sara (among other things).

Pleased to hear how useful this equipment is. I think we all discover an amazing piece of kit at some point. Ours was the bed /chair sensor which was life changing fir be!!
A sensor fitted on the bed and recliner chair. If/ when my husband moved or tried to get up would alarm. It prevented so many falls. I was able to move away from his side to kitchen knowing he was safe.
most useful thing i ever got, i was lucky Brians arms were very strong. and i used to wheel him around on it did have to go slowly though , dont think it should be uses like that but it worked for us and madelife a lot easier . take care Linda xx
Yes, as long as one has arm strength, it'll work. Sandy still does and I'm glad that Brian had that as well. Hope and pray that this one function stays with us til the end.
I agree wholeheartedly. A stand assist device can be lifesaving. We never had another fall while using one. We used the Lumex which is a much cheaper version of this device, but has all of the same benefits. It made transferring safe and easy both for my husband and for me.
I definitely wanted to buy the Lumex because it did seem like it would accomplish the same purpose with a fraction of the price. In fact you are the one who recommended it when I was researching. However, it would not open up wide enough to wrap around the recliner to get my hubby in and out. We had purchased a special lift recliner which he used a lot. Now he can't really use the recliner because he's so lopsided that he falls into one edge with his head hanging off one side and his leg lifting and floating off the other.
These type of scenarios seem to be the order of the day around here. One thing works until it's time to move on to another.
Joy, so pleased to hear that the Sara Steady is working for you. We are using it increasingly now. It was good to have it ready for us when things deteriorated.
The hospice OT provided a Sara Stedy for us but we sent it back as we could not use it - the wheels were so small that it was hard pushing it on carpet and it would not go over the smallest bump. It only seemed suitable for hospital-like flooring. But glad it is working for you.
Sara does not like to go over even the slightest bump so I understand why you can't use it. We have hardwood floors - no carpet - throughout the house so it works for us.
We loved the Sara. Sadly, Dan cannot sit up alone etc, so recently it is difficult to use. We used at almost two years, but should of gotten it much sooner.
Our wheelchair ramp is a great asset. I am also happy I purchased an alternating pressure mattress, it has proven to be wonderful.
It's sometimes hard for Sandy to get onto it because it's also hard for him to sit up straight. So far, he's doing it but his feet are so far from his hips and one leg is usually trying to float into the air. I am so thankful for this gadget. Hoping it lasts forever. We also have a ramp and a great wheelchair. And we bought the alternating pressure mattress. It's wonderful.
