My dad hasn't had a BM in 10 days, appetite is good. Tried Laxido. Anybody experience similar? BMs have been less regular last few months. Thanks

BMs becoming irregular
Yes, this is a common problem. Try MIRALAX. Try suppositories. Try prune juice. Try an overdose of VitC.
It's common with PSP, but not healthy.
Good luck!!
As said Miralax, emergency doc recommended 2 to 3 dosage for three days,it did work and then once a day forever.Don't wait to much longer it could be a blockage.
My husband now only goes every about every 5 days.He doesn't have the energy to do it.Doc gave me Laxido for him yesterday so hope it works as he is so sluggish when he doesn't go.It makes me very anxious.I thought this week something else might be wrong but doc says it is all disease progression. We are 4 years down the line since Pd then psp diagnosis.
Hi Mum has 2 types of laxative that are each meant to work slightly differently with regards bulking & softening. She has a tiny tablet of Biscodyl and a sachet of Laxido, if she doesn't go for a few days we increase the Laxido to 1.5 sachets, if still nothing happening we increase again to 2 sachets, if still no show, we call the Community Matron who checks for compaction, luckily so far haven't had to have a manual evacuation, as not nice for anyone but we have had bypass diahorrea as a prelude to things moving again.
Mum does still pass wind which is a good sign that the bowel is still working just sluggish.
I had the same problem with my sister. Laxidose did eventually work. Gave it to her every day until she had a BM
Are you uk based, we use lactulose, but if that doesn’t work we resort to senna at night, that is stronger, as a natural way try a tablespoon of flaxseeds on cereal, brown sugar is also good
Hope this helps
Janet
Agree with approach enjoysalud provided below. We had the hospice nurse insert suppositories a number of times for almost immediate affect.
This problem has happened to us even though Ch was on Colyxial twice daily. We were advised to significantly increase the intake of water and begin at least 2 cups of "cloudy pear juice" daily. This has worked. Good luck
The involuntary muscle movements we all have in the intestines aren’t happen due to PSP. I give Larry a stool softener and senna laxative tablet at lunch every day until it works when the flood gates open. Then I backoff using them for a few days.
You may want to try massage of the bowels to help simulate. There are videos on YouTube. Here is one: m.youtube.com/watch?v=XfAiE...
Skip to about 1:45 when she actually shows how to do it.
My husband has CBD and has the same issue. Couldn’t get him to go more than once a week. Still trying to find the magic combination to get him to go more often, as he starts getting more confused and tired the longer he goes without a bm. I’ve been trying everyone’s suggestions from here. He went after 5 days this week! Yay! Keep trying till you find what’ll work for him. Good luck.
Yes this has now been a big problem for hubby, couple months ago he went to 12days without movement, the doctor tried enema and supposatries, sent him for a scan in case there was a blockage, but all was well, he went on the 13th day. Now, he's prescribed 2 docusate in the morning and 2 at night, for evermore (these soften stools only), and if he hasn't had a .movement by 5 days I give 2 tspn senna morning and night, this syste is working well, but he inevitably goes every 5 days now with 5 days worth, poor devil, it actually makes him real weak and exhausted. Its down to psp again, I think not having the muscle strength to push.
Hope this helps Best7, but they all react differently to treatments, although they all seem to get the same symptoms. Good luck and best wishes Jean
Miralax with orange juice helps David.
