I wrote the original post on whether people grew tired of in home therapists. Wow, lots of responses. It seems that most people thought it was well worth while. I know it's helped my husband quite a bit but since he stopped walking, he's probably not gaining as much. The main problem I have is that they don't schedule their visits well and they are calling to ask if they can come by with very little notice. One showed up 40 minutes early the other day. It's very disrupting.
If our home was quiet other than the in home therapists, it would be different. We have, however, been in the middle of a remodel (which is now finished). We would have up to five people a day in and out of the house tripping over each other and every time someone comes to the door, our dog goes crazy with her barking. When they decided it was time to discharge my husband from care, we had a week or two off. I noticed that the stress level for both of us had diminished. Once they came marching back in, it went back up again.
I did, however, relate to the caregiver who said they welcomed the therapists because they lived in a remote area and didn't have enough company. We recently moved closer in after living in a remote area and I understand the isolation. Everyone has a different situation.
The best thing about in home care is the shower aid. In my opinion, shower aids should be given sainthood and paid a high salary. They work hard and seem to enjoy serving others. It takes a very special person to be a shower aid.
I am thankful that this is one thing covered by Medicare. They cut you off as soon as you stop making improvements but if something changes with your health, they will open another "episode" and return.
