I heard or read somewhere that itching is associated with psp. Has anyone else had this problem, my head, face, ears and arms itch constantly.

Dear FaithlyHopeful:

Good morning;

I do not know exctly whether it is due to PSP or other ailment. All I know is that I have got itching problem every where when i triggers e,g from head to toe but mostly problematic area is "Groin". I did speak to GP and got anti allergy tablets and it does help for at least 24 hr.

Best wishes and regards

My hubby who had mild eczema pre PSP has probs with itching. We have stopped all soap products and use Dermol cream for bathing and moisturise daily. Antihistamines daily and steroid creams where needed. I cover scabs to reduce scratching.

I also changed to a hypoallergenic washing powder. These things have helped but not completely eradicated the Itching! Hope you can find something that works for you too.

Are you on any medication? If you read the side effects many of them can cause itching so if you were itch free in the past, it may be medication. My husband started itching and after stopping certain meds, it stopped but I can’t remember which it was. He was wearing patches behind his ears to surpress saliva for 6 months before becoming allergic to them but that was a localised rash which cleared as soon as he stopped using them. I have suffered in the past, some plants effect me, and found relief using E45 Itch cream.

I hope you find out what is causing it as constant itching is awful.

Best wishes.

Mom has experienced increased itching in strange or uncommon areas to experience itching. She doesn’t appear to have a rash or an allergy and she talks frequently about itching, so I thought it might be nerve information being misinterpreted by her brain - she has CBD, and I immediately thought it might be a result of her CBD. They finally got her a prescription level anti-itch topical cream that can be used when she is having these sensations.

Hi FaithyHopeful!

A few months ago has made his appearance of itching on the head of mi wife (PSP 6,5 years ago) that have not improved much trying different types of shampoos: neutrals for babies, antiseptics, etc. but the shampoo "Sebamed", emulsion without soap with olive oil and ph5'5, has worked very well and we have not had the itching problem on her head at the moment.

The products that are used for itching in non-hairy body parts such as calamine-based products (Talquistine) are difficult to apply on the head as they are in the form of cream or powder. Calamine-based products work well in hairless body areas.

Hoping to be useful.

Hugs.

David used to suffer with itching, mainly on the lower legs, and on his head. I had no idea why he suffered this, and he always scratched himself to ribbons with it, it is interesting to note it could be a PSP thing. The best solution for this that we found was to apply copious amount of the white aqueous cream around the itchy areas. It seemed to work quite well, I guess it’s a bit like calamine lotion for chicken pox, it cools the area and negates some of the itching.

Dad suffered severe itching while taking sinemet, he was put on patches by the neurologist as itching was one of the side affects. Since he was taken off the meds the itching has stopped.

Hope you find a solution soon.
