Hello -

I am new to this group and very thankful that it exists. My mother was officially diagnosed with PSP 6 years ago - and misdiagnosed for at least 2 year prior to that.

This morning she would not wake up - breathing, but not responsive at all. It lasted for a good 30 minutes. She was taken to the ER and cleared and back home now.

Has anyone experienced such a thing before with PSP? We were worried it may have been a mini stroke - but there are no signs of a stroke. She was back to her regular self within about 45 minutes.

Thanks in advance!

Dad never had anything like that happen but a quick search yielded this.

My husband did this. Usually it was just a few minutes but one occasion when the nurse came to visit he was totally unresponsive. She organised for him to go to A&E but nothing was found. His medical team decided that the hospital visit was unnecessary and if it happened again we would just wait quietly for him to come back. We were lucky that we only had the one long episode and the rest were just short and soon resolved. PSP does all kind of weird things and it is hard for carers. Take care of yourself.

Thank you so much - it really is one surprise after another. She responded to smelling salts, so I will keep them on hand.

My wife who has PSP was unresponsive and taken by ambulance to A&E where they put her on a saline drip. She came round within an hour but her blood pressure was so low they kept her overnight. She was back to "normal" the following morning and released later that day.

Interesting - my mom’s blood pressure was very high. That is what made everyone think it was a stroke. Isn’t so odd how they seemed so “normal” like nothing happened?

I cant believe I'm still learning of more gifts from PSP.

My husband is in his 9th year for sure and I thought I have heard or have had experienced most of what has happened or what is to happen but this is a new one.

Thanks for the information.

One day at a time

Hi yes this happened to my partner and he was taken into hospital and they have blamed it on some new meds he had. He has been in there nearly 2 weeks and I am having a job trying to get him back home and back to normal. Its all so frustrating.

Oh, I am so sorry. My mother refused to stay in the hospital and the emergency room physician was okay with her leaving. Hoping and praying your partner goes home soon.
