Does anyone have a suggestion for a cup for water that my husband could use at night when we are in bed? He cannot suck on a straw or on one of those children’s cups that won’t spill. As it is now, every time he wants a drink of water I have to go around to his side of the bed, and hold his cup for him. Thanks

Drinking cups
Hello Greenkerrycounty. I am also interested in knowing about finding a cup. At home I use a coffee cup with a handle because the therapist told me the cup/glass should not be too big or too small. I was told that drinking straight from a water bottle was a bad idea and a straw is not good either. A cup with a lid like a child sippy cup seems like a good idea, but tilting the head back while drinking can create problems like water going the wrong way and the person can have a coughing or chocking reaction. I think it is important to sit straight while drinking or eating at all times. If anyone has a good method I would like to know.
Thank you,
Hi
These are very high quality and they are thermos type too.
The small opening. (5mm) helps to prevent choking. There is a lid with a larger opening too.
The inside is conical so the cup does not need tipping up so much.
Cups which are not conical can be bought too.
Hope this helps.

Oops the link would have helped!

Top man as usual, Kevin. I've been researching cups as we have just started with problems with R drinking, not a swallowing problem, more of a coordination problem and aggressively resisting my help, so this might be our saviour, thank you. Hils
You're welcome
We are just about returning to an icing syringe on visits home. The Nursing home use a large PEG sysringe into the mouth for those people who can't manage to open their mouth enough or suck very well.
Maybe something to keep for later.

Thanks so much for taking the time to feedback on the icing syringe, really do appreciate it. I have no doubt that the time will come when I will have a need for this so will add to my notebook. Sad that we have to become experts in managing such a dreadful illness but thankfully we are not alone in the fact that the folks on here always take time out of their own challenges to help others. It's a privilege to be associated with such a decent bunch of people. Do hope that you are doing ok and that Liz is stable. Hils
I used a thing called Fleximug, not promoting a product it's just what I found to work. It does utilize a straw that's bendable but stays in the shape you put it. I mounted a bicycle water bottle cage to his hospital bed frame to hold it and adjusted so it so all Dad had to do was turn his head at night.
There are also double handled cups that may work. Do a web search on water cups for handicap and see what pops up that you think may work.

My husband was advised to use a special cup to drink. It is called Kapitex and you can buy it online. It restricts the amount that someone can drink. G couldn't drink water without choking. So I used to put a Smoothie in it and he could drink that.
