Mum hasn't eaten or drank anything for the last 4 days.... she has lost 3 stone in 6 weeks and is so very frail. She's barely awake. I know the end is near.. but I'm scared she might be in pain?? Any advice from you lovely people? ❤❤

This is horrible to witness isn’t it and I feel for you. Has your mum any way of communicating, squeezing your hand, thumbs up etc? If so, ask her if she is in pain. My husband indicated he wasn’t. I phoned the Hospice and the GP when my husband stopped eating and drinking and a syringe driver and morphine were brought round to our house in case they were needed but thankfully they weren’t. He never showed any sign of agitation and was able to move his thumb in answer to questions up until 48 hours before he left me. Previously he would become very agitated if he was uncomfortable and I knew something was wrong but once he decided he had had enough, he was very calm and peacefull.

Thinking of you both and praying she is peaceful and pain free.

It's so horrible when they can't communicate if they are in pain, Ben had the syringe driver on the last day as he was so stiff and contorted I just can't se how he couldn't be in pain so I wanted to be on the safe side.

Sending warm wishes and a hug

I was given liquid morphine which I slid into his mouth with an eye dropper when he seemed uncomfortable during his last week. I would say if your mother is in pain you would know it.

Like everyone else has said she needs a syringe driver to deliver morphine to her. Phone the Hospice and ask them for advice and help. Hospitals can provide the same service but are not as helpful as the Hospice.

I am so very sorry Careenh but I know you don't want to watch your Mum suffer any more than she has. Tell her you love her and tell her you will be alright and it's alright to go. My heart goes out to you and your poor Mum.

God Bless and big hugs to you.

Careenh my heart goes out to you. My dad was the same way at the end, he 5 days without fluids. I hope you have good support around you, and people you can call on for help and advice.

My dad was given a syringe driver on his last day, similar to Katiebow and I hope it helped him with the discomfort and pain.

Much love to you and your family xx
