Hi all I am hoping someone may be able to help. My Mum was diagnosed with CBD 4 years ago. She lives with my Dad in a beautiful but rather rural setting in the Yorkshire Dales. Dad does all he can to support my Mum but we need 24 hour care for her.
We have been trying to establish a pattern of live in care for day and night carers but are struggling to find the right people who will live in such a rural setting.
Since January there have been 8 carer who have tried but not stayed for various reasons.
My sister and I visit from London (11 hour round trip) every other weekend where we both work, live and bring up our own young families. We are desperate to fulfil mums wishes of living our her days in her own home but can seem to get the care provision right. The rotating door of carers is adding its own stress and complication to an already dreadful situation. We would have her in London with us but she has made it clear she doesn’t want that.
So any ideas on care plans that work?
Care agencies that can help in rural setting?
A Lovely carer looking for a new role in the Yorkshire Dales?
All advice appreciated.
Best wishes
Sally

Are you self funding or do you have the involvement of a social worker (they should be helping you). Your Mum may also be eligible for CHC funding so they would sort out the care also.
It is very hard currenttly across the UK to find reliable and good carers. It is a nightmare and one I battle with constantly. Like you say having changing people in the care role is not good got anyone , especially these conditions.
If you are self finding I'd suggest using social media to put out job ads, printing up simple flyers and posting in the area like churches, community halls etc. You can pay to put up jobs ads online also on websites like Gumtree. I have found social media to be better reach though.
Have you stayed with the same agency so far? If there is another, may not be as rural, ring up afew and explain the situation and you need consistent people who have experience of complex care or willing to learn. You could ask for recommendations on social media also.
Unfortunately it is country wide issue.
I feel the care sector needs to be far better regulated and made into a profession for the care staff so that more people would want to work in the sector. Carers are underpaid and over worked by agencies.
There are some agencies who specifically deal with live in care too if you google.
Social services provided a list of agencies and I called them all back in January. Only a couple would help. Not many cover the area or provide live in carers which has really limited what we can do. Will keep trying as I am hopeful we can find someone willing to help.
I have CBD and until recently I was entirely cared for by my husband. He is nearly 73 and was getting to the end of his tether with looking after me 24/7. Fortunately I still have all my marbles so my care is entirely physical but I need lots of it as I can do very little for myself. We have recently employed a live in carer from an agency based in Suffolk called Christie’s Care. Where you are located is irrelevant as the carer lives in. At the moment we are both very happy and grateful for help. The agency is rated outstanding by the CQC and our carer is very competent and well trained. They do about 3 weeks and then they hand over to a new one. If you google them they’ll send you an information pack. Hope this helps and good wishes for your journey through this terrible disease. Thank you so much for the response Jackie. Love to you and yours. Will definitely try them also as we really are struggling for consistent care that will live so rurally. All advice so welcome and gratefully received. X
