My husband had unexplained episodes. Sky high temperature, shaking, erratic heavy breathing, unresponsive for hours etc. The first time was at a weekend and very scary, and by the time a doctor came he was “normal”. The next time was also at a weekend so I took a video on my phone as by the time the doctor came he was sleeping, unresponsive but temperature normal. Our own GP came to see him on Monday morning, saw the video, checked him out and said it was a “neurological blip”. I think another way of saying he hadn’t a clue what it was. After that, it happened many more times over the next couple of years and I didn’t call the doctor. I got his temperature down by using a fan, wet flannels on his face and once the PEG was fitted, liquid paracetamol. He’d sleep for hours, when I thought it would turn into a forever sleep, and then wake up as if nothing had happened. I used to ring the surgery once aware again so they could record the “neurological blip” but once I realised he wasn’t in pain I got used to managing it and in a lucid moment after an episode when I was talking to him about what happened, he said, “No hospital, ever”. He hadn’t talked for ages, he was at the thumbs up stage when I asked him yes no questions about pain etc but the words came out of the blue.

I don’t know if the symptoms were similar to your mum’s but PSP causes many “strange” symptoms. Hopefully hers was a one off but if not, the first is always the worst and you will know what to expect now.

Best wishes.

Hi my Mum has cbd she’s had it 6 years now and she had her first one Nov 16 and then nothing until Nov 17. Same thing went to hosp in both occasions they do all the tests find nothing, I spent hours explaining her condition no one has ever heard of it nor understands so then they just send her home. It’s so frustrating. Mum is in a nursing home now as she needs 24 hour care and they have said they want to put together an advanced care plan for her so if it happens again they won’t have to send her to hospital. Xx

Yes. My mother has been having these episodes for a couple of years. They started gradually. The first one happened while we were doing a crossword together, she suddenly began shaking and slumped to the side. Luckily I caught her. She had a severe one about 6 months later, after which she became unresponsive. I got her to the hospital where she had another which was witnessed by several nurses and a Doctor. They were all perplexed. She was put on a machine to monitor her brain waves after that. It was horrible! Never again. She was miserable and after we were able to pry her loose from the hospital and get her home it took weeks for her to overcome the experience.

The seizures are now very frequent. Her head becomes hot (I counter with ice packs and gel pads on the forehead) and the seizures have been causing a stiffening ( cervical dystonia) which we counter with Valium. The main objective now is to keep her as comfortable as possible. 😢

Mum has CBD and had her first seizure last February which was bad and her first so we went to hospital in ambulance . Nothing showed on scans etc. Luckily managed to get her home after 4 days. Neuro said it can occur in some cases. We trialled a number of meds for epilepsy since September but none have been tolerated well so now on a very low dose. She has had a seizures in September and November but I did not bother to call an ambulance as she doesn't want to go to hospital and they can't do anything anyway. It was scary as hell the first time it happened I thought she was having a heart attack at first.

She now has odd episodes where goes blank and then vomits so think these are a kind of fit also.

Her temperature has shot up after each one and then appears it was UTi brewing. To show how that changes though she currently has a bad UTi and hasnt had a seizure thank God this time.
