My guy stomach has swollen yesterday and he has been pooping and pee is not a problem, it feels hard to the touch. He started on lactulose twice a day a couple of weeks ago.he says it doesn't hurt just feels full. Any ideas much appreciated and of course it the weekend.
Hi Dee, my dad had this, but was also in pain and it was fecal impaction (the care home hadn't been monitoring him properly). But I think it can also be fluid collecting in the abdomen, and in this case, from what I've read, it doesn't always hurt, but does need medical attention. It's so hard knowing what is PSP and what isn't and when to call the doc and when not to. Do you have anything like we have here in UK, a district nurse's helpline, etc, where you can call for advice?
Hello, my husband was in respite for a week and half way through got a chest infection, but no antibiotics appeared until I got back on the Saturday, when I got him home I noticed his stomach was very swollen and solid, I assumed it was lack of bowel movement and started him on movicol, but on the Sunday he had a dry pad and was very confused, we got him into A&E, and he had 3.6 litres of urine in his bladder, caused by the impact ion and pneumonia on the left lung, hope to have him home today or tomorrow,
I hope things have settled down now, but if not you should get your doctor to check him, Ian didn't have any pain, but you can tell when they're not they're normal self, I was very disappointed with the care home, as we picked it carefully and paid £1700 for the privilege of a second week away from home, albeit at The curtesy of the NHS
Thanks Janet, waiting for him to wake and if no change off to emergency we go.
Dee
One has to be part detective with this dam disease .After bumping the lactulose to 60 MLS and finally some gas relief my guy's belly has gone down. And I for one are really happy about it.I'm keeping a journal on all his outputs..lol
Thank goodness you seem to have averted a crisis, I monitor Ian's output too, albeit only by how many days he hasn't opened his bowels, after a couple of days I use the movicol, tend to mix it in his porridge, very devious 😜X
