CHC funding - The other route.

Hello folks

I'm sitting here feeling rather sad and angry at the plight of so many of us struggling to get CHC funding whilst struggling with the enormity of daily care and the emotional impact of it all.

So I thought it timely to remind folk that if the Social Services decide that the care is beyond the, "Social Services legal limit." Then legally the CHC has to pick up the baton.

Only social services can declare if the care is within their legal limit. Part of the CHC assessment requires a Social Worker trained in assessing the legal limit, to make a decision on this very point.

You have a right to request a copy of their decision and how it was evidenced. Yes, they have to cite the evidence underpinning their decision and you can ask for them to re-assess too.

Hi Amanda - You are so lovely!

I do care just as you do... I do my bit, you do yours.

My doctor tells me that my immune system is now responding quite well to reading NHS policy documents and that as long as I don't do too much I might recover.

You are a wise and experienced bulwark for us here.

Y'know, things are quite good here at the moment. That means I just get a little tearful a few times a day as my Liz fades away form being 'here'. We cannot have conversations now, but with effort I can work out her needs.

More sadness comes from the fact that I know she knows what is happening.. she makes the odd comment which tells me she knows and still she tries not to overburden me.

You've been down this route and know it well.

We find little joys in a light kiss or a hug... the lights go out slowly.

I just keep trying to accept what is as it is.

(And, work as hard as I can to keep the care going and any clinical thing which might ease her fading.)

Oh and about your bot comment...I cannot reply....Interesting....I believe it's been somewhat deleted as when I go there...well I do not get to go there....what is the use of a bot, to glean information? Let them come to me . I will not hide anything... robot, or humanoid.....

H i Kevin thanks for that it has come at the right time for me. My lovely Mum is still in hospital and I have asked for another CHC assessment. I tried in February this year, got through the Checklist and then we didn't get through the DST. The second DST meeting of the year is on Wednesday and I am going to make sure that someone from Social Services can make the call that my Mother's care is beyond their legal limit, based on your advice.

Thanks Kevin, how you get the time to research all the information you provide us with and taking 24/7 care of Liz as well, amazes me.

It's a bit different here in Northern Ireland where our Health Trusts undertake the assessment of care/need and funding. The Trust that I worked in for 22 years, not one resident received CHC funding. Social Services always deemed their primary care as social. So if the time comes where W needs to go in to a nursing home I will be reading up on all your posts and references. 📖 📚
