My husband has recently started breathing very heavily and noisily and when we walk anyway has a shortness of breath. Has anyone had experience with this?

Thanks Lisa

I have not heard of this specifically, although it's not hard to imagine that difficulty walking might cause the heavy breathing. However, the neurologist used to remind us that PSP doesn't make a person immune from other problems, so she would have us look for other causes for any trouble in case it might be treatable as the PSP might not be. So, worth a look at his heart?

Thanks I will make him an appointment to see his doctor. It's been getting worse over the last few weeks

My husband had asthma for many years, then probably around time he started to have CBD symptoms he had trouble breathing and exercising. Took some time to get to bottom of problem which seemed to be blood pressure and heart disease as well.

So check it all!

Thanks for your reply and advice Jen. We got him checked out at the doctors and they have given him antibiotics so hopefully he will improve in the next couple of days

Lisa,my husband who passed away just 2 weeks ago had severe breathing problems for some time before his death. It did not seem to be related to exertion but would come and go for no reason. When his breathing was loud it was like a moan or a groan with every exhale, you could hear it throughout the house. He was diagnosed woth COPD but the treatments for COPD did not seem to help (inhalers, nebulizer treatments, etc). In my opinion it was just another symptom of the PSP.The best way I could understand it or explain it was a disconnect between the brain and any other part of the body.I don't know if this helps or not but that was my experience with breathing problems.

Thanks for your reply and I am really sorry to hear your husband has passed away. I am finding that Richard is coughing and breathing heavily and rapidly but think this might be an infection as well as symptoms of psp. He has been prescribed antibiotics so I will see if it clears up and if not we will go back to the doctors. He is failing now in all areas and can't do anything for himself which is so hard to see for me and my children. I try and carry on as normal but even going out is such hard work now. Just take every day and try and carry on as best we can x

Hi Lisa, W is exactly the same and his GP referred him to a cardiologist. He had an ECG test which showed he has an irregular heart beat so they have done more cardio tests and increased his medication to try and regulate the heartbeat. We are now waiting on the results of the last test done 3 wks ago. Hope your hubby is feeling better with the antibiotics. Nanny857xx
